Climate change has been named the utmost rising humanitarian challenge currently. It has caused resulted to anguish of many people in Australia and other regions of the globe. Climate change challenges all developmental factors; hence, it is one of the major threats to sustainable development (Black & Weisel, 2010). The world climate is expected to revolutionize in the coming centuries. Even though climate change is a global crisis, most effects depend with the region. Climate change is believed to result from the concentration of greenhouse gases which ambush heat and cause global warming.
In the Agriculture sector, adaptation is preferable to mitigation. Mitigation refers to the attempts of minimizing the building up of greenhouse gases in the environment. Adaptation refers to methods aimed at adjusting to the consequences of a warming globe (Yamaguchi, 2012). Emissions from many human activities are changing the earth’s climate; however, there has not been sufficient global agreement on how to reduce them. Consequently, the current research has focused on ways of coping with the changing climate; hence adaptation takes an essential task in the most effective global response to climate change.
If the Australian government suddenly started taking climate change seriously, and introduced national policies primarily focused on mitigation would not make a difference in my answer. This is because; even though greenhouse gases emission is effectively minimized through mitigation, tremendous climatic occurrences and rise in sea level will still be experienced in the following years due to the effect of the atmospheric system apathy (Black & Weisel, 2010). Therefore, adaptation will be a vital tribute to the global warming mitigation efforts.
