Q 1. Why are judgments about ethical leadership important when different stakeholders are likely to view situations differently?

Influencing optimism and commitment of follower are pivotal aspects of many models on effective leadership (Yukl, 2010). Leaders are basically expected to influence follower commitment to a new task or existing activity. However, this influence is also the source of ethics concerns. The challenge for assessing ethical leadership is to determine when such influence is correct. It is not hard to assess ethical leadership when interests of organization, the followers, and leader are harmonious and can be achieved by actions that do not include too much cost or risk of the parties. Therefore, judgments about ethical leadership are vital when different stakeholders are likely to view situation differently.

Q 2. Discuss. Efforts to balance competing values and interests involve subjective judgments about rights, accountability, due process and social relationships

The hardship in assessing the leader effectiveness include multiple criteria with complex stakeholders and trade-offs with partly competing interests. The wide range of consequences of actions and decisions of a leader complicate the ethical leadership evaluation. The same undertakings that are beneficial to followers in some forms might also be harmful to followers in another ways. Doing what is correct for certain stakeholder (e.g owner) might not be what is best for others (e.g the community, customer or employees) (Yukl, 2010). Therefore, efforts to balance competing values and interests include subjective judgments about due process, accountability, rights and social responsibility when stakeholder interests are varying; it is not simple to assess ethical leadership.

Q 3. Discuss the success of a team depends in part on its capacity to learn from experience. Comment on how this learning might occur

When members of team are faced with goals that require them to learn, they can learn about something e.g tools, theories, and concepts; or they can learn on how to execute some activities via practice. A team can also learn how to and learn about. Most of what members think when in teams, though, is learning how to execute activities. This implies that majority of teams learn by solving and addressing actual issues as they go about their tasks. They learn how to configure and reconfigure themselves to effectively achieve needs and they learn policies and practices.
