The Role Of The Translator
The tree of languages has become very diversify all around the world. There are more than sixty five thousand languages that are spoken in different regions of the world. Due to this wide spread spoken languages there is a need of translation. This can help in understanding of language of different speakers (Anderson, 2002). The activity of translation has grown to a great extent and innovation is brought in the field of linguistics. The changes in culture and society have escalated in every region of the world. A lot of work is done in every field so in the linguistics. Effort is done so that the gap that occurs due to barrier of different speakers can be bridged especially in European countries (Tosi, 2003) . To serve purpose the role of translator is incorporated. Although many issues still remain but with the help of translator many simplification has occurred. If a light is thrown in the past no such effort related linguistics is seen. Now linguistics has emerged in an effective way and people have started to taken interest in this field. The mechanism of translation is not that simple as it seem. The true essence cannot be reflected if the translation is not done in an effective way. The communication among two different groups of languages can be easily bridged by utilizing the use of translator. So the value and role of translator cannot be ignored in today’s world. This paper discusses the role of translator in the light of translation studies. Along with that overview of issues that may arise to the translator are also brought into attention.
Development in Translation Studies
Translation is a pretty helpful phenomenon in getting to know what the other language speaker is trying to narrate. Many definitions exist is getting to know what exactly translation is. It is basically a way through which language received is substituted with language that is understandable to other (J.C.Catford, 1965). But it is important to see that the text substituted is identical in every sense of received language. Substitution of identical idea is sometimes difficult that leads to complexity in the way of translation. Taber explained translation as a way of reproducing one language into another language keeping in view the structure and right sense of sentence or text (C.R.Taber, 1969). So many views exist in explaining the term translation. Many phases are present in the history of language translation. Small tools are used so that communication between different groups of languages can be reached. With the passage of time now a proper educational setup is developed. Translation studies can help in attaining of different languages. Different sectors got disturbed as the gap that existed due to language could not be bridged. But with the help of translation studies people are getting indulged in knowing the process of translation that is resulting to be beneficial for many especially business trade sector (Holmes, 1975). Although English is mostly commonly used language tool in translation but there is seen development in other languages also like Chinese so that it becomes easy to communicate. Recently development is seen to a great extent in translation studies. Innovational techniques and effective training is provided so that better trained translator can be seen.
Role Of Translator
In translation studies the translator plays a very vital role. It acts as a key in the process of linking of one textual context into another. Not only that it plays a role in connecting two or more social groups with one another. In the wide spread communities the importance of translator has grown in the couple of years and one can’t ignore its importance. Translator acts decisive in transmitting informant among different social groups and cultures (Bernacka, 2012). Although translator and the mechanism of translation studies is not understood properly by groups and their position is criticized. Usually English is given the ascendant value but now Chinese and other prominent languages are also creating its place to be used by translator. The untouched setup of cultural and communities that are following different languages is connected due to the role of translator. Disciplines that were once untouched before due to barrier of language are now easily studied because of the effective role of translator. The training of translator is very important. A better translator can lead to better translation of the text. A professional translator should have an ability to translate in a way that can result to be more productive in communication among communities (Mary, 2006).
Along with this the translator should have the capability in translating in the proper structure and culture of the language. This way the communication among the communities can increase and the social circle can grow among them. Different cultures can know about each other in a more effective and fruitful manner.
Importance of Role Of Translator
In every department across the world the role of translator is incorporated. Many duties are performed by them. Important information can be easily transmitted due to translators around the globe. In the trade department significant role is played by translators. And not only can this in many sections of daily course of life translators be very helpful in connecting. Translators can play a special role in business as in the translator can easily perform translation in economics concerns of business. It can help in communicated with people of different culture and increase trade concerns for them. Plus translator can translate the documents that may involve special terms and condition for trade. In this way the trade and business can widen to a great extent (Torop, 2009). Many professional and special translators are found around the globe to serve this special purpose. Another important role of translator seen is in conferences and meetings especially in political meetings. When the leaders of different cultures communicate for meeting and sometimes a world meeting is conducted to discuss any matter. In such case prominent individuals of different cultures interact, here translator plays a very significant role. The instant translate improves the meeting quality. This has increased the relationships of different nations. This is a good fit for the countries and unions. Another scenario although not very common but still exist is the role of translator in hospitals. Sometimes there happens to be a gap in cultures and language of hospital community and patient. The role of translator can help in translating the history and other information of patient belonging to different culture. The treatment process can be more effectively conveyed to the patient (Ritva, 1995). This results in better treatment of the patient.
Issues faced by the Translator
Been translator is not an easy task. Many cultural and linguistic issues come into way of translator. As discussed above the difference in cultures can result to be a great difficulty for the translator. The translation of words even though done correctly can be wrong if deeply culture is not understood. So the translator has to be pretty well known about the culture so that the correct perspective can be conveyed. Many sub division within the similar culture can rise as a problem for a translator (M.Larson, 1984).
Metaphoric indications can also be a problem for the translator. As the translator has to get to the virtual meaning or indication depicted by that metaphors. Along with this the narration of text and the punctuations style can be problematic for the translator (Malik, 2013). Many times it is seen that grammar mistakes occur even by a professional well trained professional translator. Usually this is seen in Arabic when converted in English (Albakry, 2004). Errors are mostly encountered in gender indication. Male and female is mixed in textual translation while dealing with Arabic. Even though development is shown in translation studies sector but still effort should be done so that translator can be more professional in their work. Training or workshop can polish them. This way they can overcome many hurdles that may exist.
Due to development in translation studies one has removed many problems. Couples of year development and effort are done in translation sector. And the trend has emerged again. Translators have resulted to be useful tool for cultures around the globe. Today translators are in a distinct position solving issues in every section.
Overall one can conclude that the role of translator cannot be ignored. They play a vital role in communication and writing. As many cultures exist so difficulties are also present in communication. Efficient translator can be very helpful in this regard for community and society. The exchange of thoughts can widen the interaction among people and gain benefits that were unattainable. Satisfactory level among different language group is not completely attained. But still one can say that the gap has decreased to a great extent. Although the concern related matters are extensive still this paper has tried to enlighten the role of translator in today’s world. Many people have started to draw focus towards the need of development in language translation. Attainment of proper translation is really a issue or challenge now a days. This great challenge in this global village is still an issue that was impossible without translator.
