The article discusses the health policy pathfinder as an innovative learning strategy and how it helps nursing students to understand the diverse interests of the various group politics. In the article, the author uses information obtained from various journal articles and other online materials relevant to the field of nursing to examine importance of the health pathfinder amongst the nursing students. From the findings, it emerges that the health policy pathfinder helps nursing students to discover great opportunities to enable collaborations between stakeholder groups, understand how different interest groups affect policy making in health care, and enable them to analyze policy arguments presented by different stakeholder groups. The findings also show that the health policy pathfinder assists nursing students to examine evidence obtained from diverse publications with ability to establish the grey areas in such literature. The results show that application of the health policy pathfinder plays an important role in assisting nursing students to explore interest group politics in decision making as science and practical evidence may fail to apply in some health practice dilemmas.

Professional nurses working in diverse and political health care need to have skills to critically examine information relevant to their field. As supported by
Charise et al. (2011), health decision-making processes and outcomes are influenced by various non-medical contextual factors including political, social, economical, institutional, and geographical conditions that health practitioners must be able to critically analyze. In this respect, the health policy pathfinder education strategy for nursing students provides the nursing students with relevant skills to enable them to work in diverse and political health contexts. This strategy not only enables nursing professionals to analyze and articulate different group politics but also evaluate different publications that influence their scope of knowledge in making healthcare related decisions. The findings indicate that the Royal College of Nursing has been instrumental in promoting the trans-cultural nursing practice in Australia. The role of the college in promotion of the trans-cultural nursing practice is evinced by the foundation of the Trans-cultural Nursing Society by the college. The findings show that the trans-cultural nursing practice has been developing since 1990, when the society was established as an avenue through which nurses could share their views and experiences in the field of the healthcare realm. The findings further indicate that the Trans-cultural Nursing Society has been critical in the spread of the practice across the Australian field of nursing especially through publication of a quarterly newsletter that features issues emerging in the nursing practice. The studies also show significant involvement of the college leadership in promotion of trans-cultural nursing through direct involvement of the college’s top leadership in the communal activities. Chenowethm, L., Jeon, Y., & Burke, C. (2006). Cultural competency and nursing care: An Australian Perspective. International Nursing Review, 53 (1), 34-40.

The article uses qualitative research approach to explore the extent and the need of culturally competent nurses in Australian nursing care. It relies on a fictitious case study of a Korean woman who was admitted at Southbank Hospital with left sided cerebral vascular accident to identify some of the issues that calls for cultural competency among Australian nurses. The findings indicate that majority of nurses in Australia lack cultural competency, which limits their ability to offer culturally competent care to clients. In particular, the article finds that lack of the competence leads to mistrust and reduced collaboration between nurses and clients, as well as faulty diagnosis and care that do not appreciate cultural beliefs of the patients and stereotyping of patients. Based on these findings, the article presents some ways in which culturally competent nurses will be able to address the issues. First, the authors believe such competency can help Australian nurses appreciate uniqueness of every patient in terms of needs and expectations (Chenowethm, Jeon, & Burke, 2006, p.38). It can also help the nurses adjust the nursing care to meet the health needs of each patient according to their cultural beliefs.
