1.0 Introduction

SPC (Shepparton Processing Company) Ardmona is an Australian based leading fruit company. It started operating in 1918 in a town called Shepparton and it is from this town that it obtained its original name Shepparton Processing Company (SPC). Later, SPC merged with Ardmona Company which was its chief competitor within Shepparton town with an aim of ensuring that the company becomes the first to process juice in natural juice. According to Bloomberg Bussinessweek (1), the year 2004 marked the commencement of what is the current entity of SPC Ardmona. SPC Ardmona is considered to lead tremendously in the competitive market within Australia because of its strong brands like SPC and Goulburn. Other than strong definable brands, the company has focuses on its customer services, product innovation, future sustainability and safety and quality in delivery. It is evident that the company has managed to remain the market leader due to its increased volume in sales and also because of its ability to pack its fruits in re-sealable plastic jars, transparent packaging which are very efficient when refrigerating (Bloomberg Bussinessweek, p1). Today the company is enjoying to be presented in over thirty countries across the globe. Further, as a major way to increase sales internationally, SPC Ardmona has recognized the need to develop joint ventures with countries such as South Africa, China and Spain. Based on sales projection, the company is enjoying increased sales volume due to its constant innovation in both brand and technology. The trends described every year’s shows an upward trend which automatically indicate increase in sales volume in future (Bloomberg Bussinessweek, p1).

2.0 Technology management

It is clear that in the current global economy, most companies have recognized the need to enhance their technological development and innovation as a competitive advantage ahead of their competitors within same industrial background (Howells, p 14). This has widely assisted these organizations to continually create an additional customer value thus maximizing on customer satisfaction. For this reason, SPC Ardmona has introduced a technological management that widely utilizes technology in a more productive approach as a way of delivering competitive services and products. According to Howells (25), this aims at increasing cost-effectiveness of investments that is widely linked to technological development thus high contribution towards an enterprise value and association. Various companies have developed different approaches that define major technology management theories and concepts.

Technological management theories have been adapted by many organizations as the ultimate drivers of competitive success. Meckl (14) asserts that, due to increased speed in innovation, SDC Ardmona has constantly relied on products that were developed within aforementioned five years for a large definable sales and profit portions. Technologies that are been adapted by this fruit organization includes computers, telecommunication and introduction of various software for managing all organizational processes. Since adaptation of this technology, SDC Ardmona has been able to develop a powerful driver of efficiency and increased effectiveness.

SDC Ardmona has widely incorporated the theory U in its strategic management of technological management. According to Rosenkopf & Schilling (13), this theory offer the fruit company with a new and wide theoretical perspective of technology advances. For instance, this theory defines innovation in technology within SDC Ardmona as one which ahs increased developments that increases efficiency in food production. Further, the theory constantly assists the company in understanding the GDP growth that may be as a result of technological change and innovation. Technology management assist firms in clearly definition of innovation strategies thus increase in strong brands of products.

Behavioral theory is essential for strategic management of technological innovation. This theory assists technology management team to be able to deal with the current growing demands of strategic planning especially in a technology driven firm such as SDC Ardmona Company. Further, for an effective technology management, the theory widely addresses upcoming concerns such as smooth transition while adapting new technology and designing new innovation streams. This theory ensures that all key players within an organization understands role of technological innovation and how this organization can utilize technology to establish a competitive advantage (White, & Bruton, p43).

3.0 Discussions

It is evident that for a firm to be a market leader in any specified industry such as that of SDC Ardmona of natural fruit industry; it should ensure that its strategic management of technological innovation is aligned with resources available so as to achieve a distinct strategic intent (Schilling, p20). Because of the SDC Ardmona organizational structure, the company is able to develop new products which widely maximize technical success of new changes in technology. Clearly, due to the adaptation and various approaches defined in technological management theories, companies are able to work effectively thus creating a competitive advantage.

Further, current globalization economy has forced many firms such as SDC Ardmona to play a significant part of increasing on its technology innovation as a competitive strategy due to increased competitive pressure (Schilling, p23). Technology management has assisted this company to develop and produce strong brands such as SDC which highly enables them to greatly out-focus their chief competitors. Other than improved brands, technology management have made SDC Ardmona to shift to substantial shorten established cycles that increases the rate at which new brands are launched within natural fruits markets.

4.0 Conclusion

Clearly, technology management is very essential for all companies to fight both local and international competitors. An in depth understanding of several dynamics defined in technology innovation and management, as well as establishing a well designed innovation strategy ensures that a company has a competitive advantage. It is therefore correct to state that, technological management and innovation increases the range of goods being produces and widely defines the efficiency of providing them. Therefore, firms should widely focus on designing processes that guarantees a successful implementation of a good technology management strategy. Cooperation is very important in the development and establishment of technological innovation. For instance the merger between SDC and Ardmona are more advantageous in developing a competitive advantage as opposed to acting alone since new innovations are shared effectively.
