Description

The sex scandal that resulted into resignation of Dominique Strauss-Kahn from the position of a managing director at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is one of the past events that triggered my reflection about ethical management. The scandal was highly publicised in almost all media and communication channels even though Dominique Strauss-Kahn continuously denied any involvement in the scandal. My thoughts and feelings are that a manager in any given organization serves as the goodwill ambassador of that particular organization.

Critical explanation or analysis

It is important for a manager to realise that people have the tendency to judge negatively when managers are involved in unethical actions. A manager must reduce the tendency of people judging them negatively. From my own perspective, the above scandal occurred because Dominique Strauss-Kahn failed to realise that any perceived unethical behaviour on his part would be judged negatively by the public. This means that engaging in a slight unethical behaviour may be detrimental to the manager. I see this as a learning situation because it helps in the understanding of ethical management as an important discipline in the management field in the context of the manner in which managers should conduct themselves as the heads of the organizations or departments.
