The increasing number of professionals and residents in Dubai has led to increased traffic congestion. Commuters and motorists have continually experienced traffic jams, which has become Dubai’s perennial problem. Road jamming, as well as traffic correlated pollution, have increased tremendously; thus, resulting in adverse financial and societal effect. Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) can help motorists to avoid road congestion because of their compactness,
ability to transfer information swiftly, less maintenance, and easy installation (Nellore and Hancke 1). A wireless sensor network system, as pointed out by Jiménez and García (2), can help motorists detect and avoid traffic jam through microphones as well as magnetometers. This system can as well be utilised for traffic surveillance as well as monitoring since it is accurate, energy efficient, and simple. Dubai can reduce maintenance tasks by installing mini solar panels to power up the motes. Besides that, traffic congestion in Dubai can be reduced by adopting the Advanced Traveller Information Systems (ATIS), which offers information to commuters and motorists regarding the road congestion. Information regarding the transportation network is broadcasted through the vehicle-based devices, personal assistants as well as infrastructure-provided equipment. Bazzan (2132) posits that ATIS can help reduce the time used by commuters on the road by offering the needed information to choose the most suitable mode, route, or departure time. The information offered by ATIS could enable the people in Dubai to make choices which could help reduce travel time. Wireless communications would enable cars to communicate to each other; thus, allowing the driver to know how to avoid traffic.
