Analysis and opinions on architecture and drawings

Analysis and opinions

In the article “the act of making” (1990), Borowsky explores the relationship that is found between where people live, the houses they have built and the individuals living in them. He expresses his concern that most artistic practices lack familiarity and connection with nature and the environment (Borowski 1990, p.87). On the other hand, in the article “Transgression from drawing to making” (2005), Sheil addresses the issue of making in architecture and design. In his article, he focuses on the interdependency between a maker and his architectural work. The question that the author of the latter article seeks to find answer from is why the connection and interdependency of architecture and design has become so inseparable and critical.
The challenge is the adoption of standardization that involves restrictions and legal issues that not only improve the artists’ repertoire of work but also alters the making process by causing less contact and dialogue or collaboration between builders, craftsmen and architects (Sheil 2005, p. 34).
In comparison, they agree on the fact that earlier drawings were done with tactic knowledge and they expressed material and imaginative meaning. See the diagrams below.

On the other hand, the two articles differ in terms of themes in the sense that while the article on the art of making dwells on drawings and architecture in the renaissance era that had distinctive characteristics, the other article focuses on how architecture has been affected by demands in technology, site, economics, programs, client and functions (Sheil 2005, p. 32).
