It is clear that the climate change is chiefly caused by emissions of greenhouse gases. The current Australian government’s effort to mitigate the effects of the climate change is not satisfactorily effective. Therefore, it is important to control the key causes of climate change instead of adapting to the impacts. It is has been proven that most of the causes of the climate change are anthropogenic – human activities. Some of the impacts of the climate change is drying up of the lakes and rivers, rising of sea levels, unpredictable weather patterns, and melting of ice-caps to mention but a few. There is a need for designing an ideal climate through taking into consideration important elements such as sustainable development, instruments for mitigating environmental impacts, and resource allocation in countering climate change. There are three operating environments such as the social environment, natural environment, and economic environment that revolve around the electricity energy industry. Natural environment provides hydro-electric power for the sustainability of the electricity industry. Therefore, climate change affects the natural environment through changing volume of water. Social environment provides a favourable environment through which electricity industry operates and integrates with society by adopting corporate social responsibility such as providing clean water to the neighbourhood industry. Therefore, several steps can be adopted towards future sustainability of the Australian businesses such as the electricity industry.
Steps employed to reduce climate change
Climate change has been correlated to global warming and thus, fighting climate change is primarily done through reduction of greenhouse gas emissions to the atmosphere, and depleting ozone layer. These emissions of the greenhouse gases essentially increases global temperatures leading to adverse weather patterns, rising sea levels, and sub-merging of some islands. Therefore, there are several steps aimed at reducing climate change. They include cleaner energy sources, energy saving, green driving, re-forestation, embracing organic farming, Reduce Reuse Recycle practices, and education.
Cleaner alternative renewable energy sources
Using cleaner alternative renewable energy sources is one of the important ways of fighting climate change. These sources include but not restricted to solar energy, wind energy, hydroelectric power, geothermal and biomass. Therefore, it necessary to reduce usage of the fossil fuel since it causes the emission of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Adopting greener sources of energy, reduces global warming along with fighting climate change, and brings about sustainable development through improvement of the living standards of the people (Li, 2011).
Automobile industry is a major contributor to the climate change through the emission of greenhouse gases carbon dioxide. Therefore, reducing greenhouse emissions is a key strategy in reducing climate change and its associated impacts. In the transport sector, has contributed greatly through the increase in the number of cars, jets and trains. Therefore, greener means of transport such as electric trains and hydrogen cars helps in reducing the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere (Li, 2011).
Reduce Reuse Recycle principle
Today’s Consumerism culture encourages people to buy, use, and throw the remains away without considering the impact of unsustainable consumption and waste disposal of commodities. However, if the practice of the 3R’s (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) is exercised carefully by commodity’s user; the level of waste products will be reduced as a result the level of gas emitted from the waste will be reduced (Li, 2011).

For the world to achieve a sustainable green life and minimal carbon emission the culture of consumerism must be restricted and in turn a life style guided by the principle of reduces, reuse and recycle adopted. In addition, the 3Rs principle help in energy and resource conservation, reduce greenhouse emission and pollution. Therefore, every person in the universe need to take part in the reduction global warming and climate change by rethinking about the way he or she is living (Dornbusch & Poterba, 2001).

All the principles aimed at conserving and protecting the environment need to be put into action as soon as possible. The action will protect the current environmental condition as well as protecting its future need (Grimes, Varghese & Ranjan, 2007).
Trees are the most efficient and effective carbon dioxide remover from the atmosphere (Nagendra & Southworth, 2010). However, the current tree cutting rate in the world has reduced the ability of the earth’s surface to remove carbon dioxide gas from the atmosphere. However, people can heal this environmental wound by taking charge of the current environmental conditions and by putting effort in tree planting both locally and internationally. In addition, paper production and usage need to be reduced to reduce deforestation (Donovan & Henley, 2010).
Soils are very important sink for carbon dioxide gas in the atmosphere. Organic and sustainable agriculture helps to reduce climate change by reducing erosion and restoring organic matters in the soil. Organic farming also reduces the use of agro-chemical fertilizers which not only improve crop yield, but also reduce global warming (Li, 2011).
Switching to Organic Farming
Climate change can be reduced through use of organic farming, which can be achieved if individuals switch to organic products. If the demand for organically grown products becomes high, organic farming is likely to become more popular and more economically viable as compared to other farming methods. Alternatively, a community can grow its own organic garden in order to encourage local farmers cultivate various products through crop rotation. Such a practice will help greatly in the reduction of carbon emissions and restoration of ecological balance as far as environment is concerned (Donovan, & Henley, 2010).
Use of Green Shopping
Use of green shopping tips is another way to reduce climate change. This can be achieved through purchase of local products as opposed to products produced overseas. When vegetables and exotic fruits are transported from one destination to another, a lot of energy is consumed in terms of burnt fossil fuels, which brings about the global warming effect and greenhouse gas emissions. Besides, the chemical pesticides used in the preservation of the fruits may contribute to release of toxins in the atmosphere. Purchase of local products, therefore, helps to lessen the carbon footprints and avoid the aforementioned scenarios (Li, 2011).
Climate change can also be reduced through education. Education helps to create awareness on how to fight climate change and practice green living tips. Education helps to create a widespread network socially responsible people who are well aware of the consequences of climate change. Again, education helps people to know the role they can play towards creating a sustainable environment and create a significant difference in climatic change. Education is, therefore, a good way to go green and is an important aspect in securing the future of the planet and protecting the earth
In conclusion, climate change has affected electricity industry through affecting the amount water in the rivers. Unpredictable weather patterns have been experienced which have caused greater damage to the electricity sector. Therefore, it is important to adopt greener and renewable and eco-friendly sources of energy to reduce climate change and bringing about sustainability in our environment.
