We are given that there are four doors whereby 1 door doubles the money and three doors have no winnings. Therefore the probability of selecting the winning door is given by, P(win) = ¼ = 25%

14. Five of the 100 digital video recorders (DVRs) in an inventory are known to be defective. What is the probability you randomly select an item that is not defective.

We are given that there are 100 DVRs of which 5 are defective and 95 are not defective. Therefore, the probability of selecting a DVR that is not defective is, P(not defective) = 95/100 = 0.95 =95%

41. According to company records, the probability that a watching machine will need repairs during a six year period is 0.10

This means that 10% of the company’s washing machines need repairs during a six year period. Therefore, when a customer chooses the company’s washing machines, he/she will have a 0.1 0r 10% chance of repairing the machine in a six years period.
