1. Describe the political and economic theories and systems that influence community services work.

Political theory which highlights the different ways power is used. This causes a direct influence where a person actually participates in community services. Also it can cause indirect influence in the case where an individual influences others to participate in the community services.

Economic theory, on the other hand, works on individual empowerment and in turn influences ones participation in community services (Youniss and Yates, 1997).

2. What is the impact of specific policy decisions on community work?

Public laws and ordinances which are set on community work by legislature to prevent the community from exploitation. In effect they define the terms of community engagement.

Regulatory policies which define the dos and don’ts, the pros and corns. When followed to the latter, they define the involvement of the community in what they can participate in or not.

Business policies and organizational rules and laws which define the terms of doing specific businesses and the scope and extent the community can engage in.

Executive orders from elected officials to fight for human rights and fair treatment.

3. what are the contemporary frameworks and influences that underpin social policy?

They constitute informal and formal framework that describe interaction in behavior. Such organizations exert influence on the people’s choices, workplace factors and resources they have at hand to help them in such choices. (Elsdon, 2003).

Organizational culture, which influences the change in personal behavior and also outlines “right way” of doing things.

4. Describe the functions of social and cultural institutions within Australian society.

They help people comprehend the social plus political history of by interpreting the past, present and the future. This presents a chance to remove differences and in turn promotes appreciation for each other.

They emphasize on unity of people of the same background and identity of the Australian people. For example the national audio and visual archive which collects, stores and shares out rich heritage information.

They help to teach and pass cultural norms and values to different generations. In addition, they help to educate and promote deeper comprehension plus awareness in technology and science for instance the national science and technology center.

5. Describe the factors contributing to client experiences of inequality and the possible effects and consequences on their role in society.

Racism which is the discrimination according to the complexion of an individual or skin color. The possible effect would be that customers will only go to the clients they are affiliated according to their race. The consequence will be that certain racial origins will be more endowed and privileged than the disadvantaged lesser race.

The level of income of different individuals. In society there are those endowed with more income than others. Those endowed with more income are likely to segregate themselves from those with lesser income therefore creating inequality in the system. The effect will be those with lesser income will be undermined, and the result will be constant unbalance and unrest for example from strikes and boycotts.

Age also is another important factor in client experiences. Sometimes the clients are segregated according to the age groups. In a society where we have such discriminations, a certain age group is likely to get preferential treatment while the other age group is undermined. The effect will be contention between these two groups, the consequence comes when two rival business systems arise. The rivalry may not be constructive but destructive because systems need to complement each other.

6. Explain the different beliefs about various stratifications in our society and the ways in which stereotypes develop and their impact.

Racism where a certain race may be undermined because of a belief that they do not have training and experience to handle certain responsibilities. Hence people have the stereotypic view that a certain race understands some things better while others do not.

Another reason for stratification is the level of income. Stereotypes believe that people with low income cannot live in posh areas or afford certain amenities and the resulting impact is segregation. (Saunders, 2006).

Another factor for stratification is age. This creates a perception that a given age group do not have experience to handle certain issues.

7. The effects and consequences of unemployment on clients and society;

Financial hardship. Lack of employments means constrained sources of income to the individual and to the society. It makes the society have more dependents. The little income earned by the little few has to be channeled to those that lack therefore the financial resources are very constrained

Poverty. A society that lacks adequate sources of income is poor and lacks the social amenities that make the living conditions better. Unemployment makes people live in deplorable conditions.

Homelessness and housing stress: unemployed people lack resources to pay rent, therefore they are more likely to be homeless and undergo housing stress.

High cost of goods and services: Because of the large group of dependents, one has to charge an extra cost to good and services, thus the cost is pushed to the client indirectly.

It also can lead to tensions in families, boredom, alienation, shame and stigma, depression, social divisions, long-term harm for children and young people (Saunders, 2002).

8. List relevant organizational standards, policies and procedures.

Anti-discriminatory and Anti-harassment policy: this policy is meant to guard the work relationships between the employer and employees in the organization.

Grievance handling policy which handles the disputes between employees in the workplace

Drug and alcohol policy. This policy is meant to guard against indulging in drugs and alcohol at the workplace to prevent inconveniences caused by this nasty habit

Code of conduct which addresses the dressing and behavior in the workplace

Health and safety policy. According to the industry, different organizations have their safety standards to follow. This prevents putting employees at health hazards. Also the employee insurance policy to ensure compensation in case the employee is injured at the workplace. And even fire evacuation procedures and fire extinguishing equipment at the workplaces.

Recruitment policy: This is meant to ensure equality and fairness in recruitment of employees in the workplaces. There should be no bias in recruiting but the recruitment process should be objective.
