IS THE RFID THE SOLUTION AND THE TICKET?

The airports are investing a lot in ensuring that the number of bags lost in reduced substantially by the application of the technology innovations. The luggage drop-off saves much time for the passengers and enhances their trust in the company. No matter the process of checking the bags, the thing that matters most is how the luggage comes out and back to the client on reaching the destination. The plain truth is that the control on the person’s valuable is vulnerable no matter the technology applied in checking in and out in the airports. This greatly depends on the assurance of the personnel involved between luggage check in and check out (Mishra & Mishra, 2010). Therefore, the eradication of the baggage mishandling completely is close to impossible. The Hong Kong airport was the first to install the RFID technology in luggage handling. The RFID has become the futuristic eTrack and eTag luggage tracking. This is a process where the customer has been given the ability to track the bags on check in, during the journey, and on checking out until they have back there luggage upon arrival through their smartphones. The Bluetooth and GPS technology have made this possible where you just drop the luggage at the terminal and leave then track it online. However, the RFID has been faced be challenges one being that this system is not free, and the price remains undisclosed. The eTracks are, however, not available at all the terminals making the technology develop some hitches (DeVries, 2008). Therefore, the process is yet to be established worldwide to be able to help in luggage safer handling.
