Review of Professional Competency
In completing the requirements of the design proposal, extensive consultative meetings and working together played an important role. Each of the team members contributed towards completing the design proposal, and each individual was required to provide credible and reliable information.
An extensive collection of information and data provided the avenues of completing the design of the problem. In choosing the information and material, relevance and validity played an important role. Some of the factors I considered include the up-to-date nature of the sources, appropriateness of the sources to the context, and quality of sources. These reliability and validity objectives were premised in choosing peer-reviewed materials and materials that focus on the sustainability and environmental management measures (Forte and Flores, 2014). Crossing checks the reference about additional information available in the literature contributed to improving the trustworthiness of the sources and cemented the applicability of the materials to the situation and context. Hence, I relied on different approaches is ensuring the design of the proposal is supported by credible, reliable and trustworthy information.
We worked as a team, and each individual had their respective roles and responsibilities, but a collaborative and partnership framework was integrated into the entire process (Galegher, Kraut, and Egido, 2014). I contributed to shaping the design of the proposal in numerous ways including selecting material, contributing ideas and views, writing up parts of the two proposal and using digital resources. Furthermore, I provided recommendations on how some areas can be improved and appropriateness of sections towards completing the entire design proposal. I ensured my proposals and contributions were integrated into the final document through supporting my views and contribute with scientific and credible references and materials.
In interacting and contributing to the design of the proposal, I relied on materials and references because I was facing a challenge since I am an international student. I am unable to communicate effectively in English meaning I misunderstood some sections of the proposals and problems were evident when I was trying to raise my views and comments (Darling-Hammond et al. 2015). I had communicated with my team from the beginning about my communication challenges, and they simplified the decisions and followed up whether I understood. Through the framework, most of my ideas worked out, and I was also able to listen and try to combine ideas with other team members. The entire process was effective and responsive engagement and collaboration with the team members.
As discussed, my problem is communicating in English, and I requested my team members to double check my parts to ensure it creates a flowing analysis and description of the situation. Through the numerous meetings, my team recognized my contributions through acknowledging the materials and sources that I proposed. I enumerated the strength and weaknesses of the materials and presented the appropriateness of the material to the wider objectives of the proposal (Jordan and McDaniel Jr, 2014). Moreover, I was able to highlight missing sections and processes that I could employ in strengthening the entire process. Furthermore, time management and ensuring the members attended consultative meetings on time including the favourable engagement environment were some of my strengths in completing design proposal.
Completing design proposal was the aim of the team and to achieve this requirement, effective leadership is integral to the entire processes. We elected a leader from the team members who were responsive with guiding and dictating the direction of the meeting and engagement (Dowling et al. 2015). It started with developing the guidelines including milestones, which meant the leader was required to ensure the milestones and planned activities were completed as planned. The leader understood the strengths and weaknesses of the team members and was able to customize and assign duties depending on the capacities and competencies of the team members. Hence, the success of the entire project dependent on effective leadership, a role that was played effectively.
In a team that brings together different people from different backgrounds, conflicts and misunderstandings are common and the solution implemented was perseverance and effective communication. When it comes to decision making, voting was employed to determine the direction of the proposal (Ronfeldt et al. 2015). Furthermore, terms and conditions had been set that the views, aspirations, and opinions of the team members were the same in consideration and after discussion, voting was done when there was a lack of concurrence. Moreover, the team members were required to provide supportive materials and evidence to clarify their opinions and views. In addition, the clarity of duties and deadlines was implemented through the effective fining system, which contributed immensely to completion of the design proposal.
In conclusion, the teamwork, the meeting, and engagement improved my overall understanding of the importance of teamwork and individual contribution to the completion of the project. Each individual had shortcomings and strengths meaning these variables were balanced through the effective framework of supporting opinions with evidence and voting to influence the direction of the teamwork processes and objectives.
