Employability Reflection

I believe that employability is made up of complex mixture of elements which differs from job to job. Despite this, the outcome is to have a person who is useful and desirable. First, I have come to learn that employees must be adaptable and multifaceted due to changing global environment (Rao, 2014). I have been developing my employability skills and I believe that I can meet EDA Engineers job placement requirements. Among the employability skills I have been working on are; ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with staff at all levels, ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team and interpersonal skills that indicate the ability to foster the trust and cooperation of others.

First, I have been working hard to develop my communication skills, both verbally and in writing. Through course work, I was able to learn that when looking for a job or seeking a promotion, there is need to have good communication skills. I have also interacted with senior workers who mentored me on my field. I have been able to learn that there is need to maintain eye contact, be able to write clearly and tailor my language and vocabulary to fit the audience. I have been working hard to develop good verbal and written communication which will make it possible to pass my message while eliminating misunderstanding. I have been learning to listen through clearing mind and putting more focus on the message. Through personal experience, I have developed ability to listen to other people emotions which is required for efficient communication. This is a step that I have taken with an aim of becoming more charismatic. I have also learnt that I need to be empathetic and able to encourage others. One of the most important lessons that I have learnt is not saying what comes to my head first without thinking. There is need to focus and think before communicating.

Secondly, I have learnt that working effectively in a team is required in any working environment. During my last team work, we were able to accomplish a lot of tasks as a team. We were divided as teams with every team being given a specific task. I developed good communication, collaboration and time keeping skills. I believe that engineers must be able to work through teams and groups (Seat and Lord, 1999). I have been working to ensure that I can work with others collectively for a common goal. This is due to fact that groups can combine skills and experiences to get good results. One of the things that I have learnt is creating a successful team requires starting by defining the team characteristics. Through knowing defining the team characteristics, it becomes possible to come up with a team which has the right set of skills and members. Through my coursework and a look at job placements, I have learnt that many organisations require workers who can collaborate and work with others. This helps in attaining the best performance for the overall team. I am still in the process of improving my skills in working together as a team.

Lastly, through my coursework I learnt that interpersonal skills are very important in work environment. This is due to fact that the relationships one have with their co workers determines how trust and cooperation can be enhanced (Rao, 2014). I have been developing my interpersonal skills by being positive and having an upbeat attitude can help in enhancing morale among others. Looking at training materials has enabled me to understand that there is need to appreciate the efforts of others. I also learnt through the course work that encouraging teamwork can help in enhancing cooperation. In working on my abilities to develop great teams and cooperating with others. This is through promoting a friendly environment where all co workers are treated as equals (Seat and Lord, 1999). I believe that through developing my interpersonal skills, it will be possible to foster trust and cooperation of others.

To sum up, I have been working hard to develop my employability skills. This is through enhancing my employability skills such as communication skills, ability to work as a team and interpersonal skills. I am been working continuously to ensure that I am employable and can meet the requirement for placement like the one advertised by EDA engineers.
