Reflection on 3 ways to effectively stand out from the crowd and make myself more visible to prospective internship selectors or employers

The first way in which I can stand out from the crowd and make myself more visible to prospective internship selectors or employers is by knowing what the potential internship selectors or employers are looking for. Employers and internship selectors like people who possess various attributes. These attributes include being creative; being business savvy; having a positive attitude that is characterised by passion, confidence and open mindedness; having the desire to learn; portraying emotional intelligence; having a drive and determination to win; and having ethical behaviour that is characterised by integrity, decency, honesty and being fair-minded – among other traits. Therefore, I intend to stand out from the crowd by leveraging my skills and knowledge to think creatively and solve any problem that is presented to me in the best possible way. In particular, it has been noted that creativity-related skills are highly demanded in the innovation economy (Puccio, Mathers, Acar & Cayirdag, 2017). Since I intend to work in the advertising industry where creativity is highly required (Roth & Kimani, 2014), I will constantly come up with creative ideas, which I can present to a potential employer or internship selector whenever I go for an interview. More importantly, I would like to always demonstrate to a potential employer or internship selector that I have a positive attitude, I am eager to learn more, and I am a person of high integrity.

Another way in which I can stand out is by letting my light shine. I can achieve this by letting potential employers or internship selectors know what I am able to do. More importantly, I need to demonstrate my abilities to the right people. I have to show my style of doing things and demonstrate that I have a positive attitude that is focused on winning. As well, I need to show that I have emotional intelligence, in that I am able to apply common sense and make balanced judgements (Wharam, 2009). As well, I have to demonstrate that I am a good listener and able to interact with people amicably. It is only when I demonstrate these qualities that potential employers or internship selectors can select me from a crowd of people like me.

The third way in which I can stand out from a crowd is by boosting my creative fire power. Along this line, I have to demonstrate that I have an objective regarding what I intend to achieve in all areas of my creativity. I have to be highly imaginative and always able to visualise a given concept from various perspectives. This is because it is only by having an open mind about any concept that I can come up with several ideas and solutions and eventually settle on the best idea. Therefore, in real sense, I have to let a potential employer or internship selector know that I am a highly imaginative person with creative fire power that I can utilise for the benefit of their organisation in case they select me to be part of their team.
