Task A: Client information

The client’s presenting problem/s

The client, who happens to be called Kathy, is suffering from the problem of being addicted to heroin while at the time of pregnancy. She has to handle the stresses of managing the effects of the rug together with pregnancy and the reaction from the family. She is having challenges with paying her rent with the boyfriend having left her when she got pregnant (Jigsaw Publications & James Bennett Pty. Ltd, 2012).

The client’s current situation (psychosocial issues, material needs, etc.)

The client is psychologically disturbed. She does not know how to handle the issues beckoning. Moreover, the psychological disturbance is hailed with the challenge of having to depart addiction to heroin because of the impending pregnancy.

The client’s current drug use and any problems arising from this

The client is struggling with having to depart addiction to heroin

Health issues the client may be experiencing (including current treatments)

The client is expectant and hence has to abandon heroin use in readiness to protect her health together with that of the unborn (Barry et, al., 2001).

The client is challenge with having to keep in terms with her reception from the family members. The departure of the boyfriend adds more challenge to what she is going through now

Client’s goals in relation to their current issues

The client has the objective to stop use of heroin, settle and pay her rent, and live peacefully with her family members.

Task B: Client assessment

1. What communication skills and strategies were used by the worker conducting the assessment with the client?

The worker used different communication skills. They included word of mouth, written messages, and verbal communication. The worker strategized to have the client stop use of the drug in order to manage her pregnancy (Barry et, al., 2001).

2. How effective do you think the assessment process was in assisting the client to identify and meet needs? Give reasons for your answer.

The assessment process was central to the inquiries required. It was driven by results to be attained. The client used these assessment processes in order to manage the daily challenges that are felt in the process of attaining the results (Jigsaw Publications & James Bennett Pty. Ltd, 2012).

3. Suggest some ways that the assessment process could be improved

The process should be made result oriented. It should have all the necessities that are required in order to maintain order and security of the structures intended to be achieved.

  1. What sorts of things were taken into consideration when choosing an intervention (or interventions) for the client?

The problem of drug abuse and addiction has been there in the world. In the United States of America, the problems of alcohol and other drug substances have dominated many societies since 1930. The following intervention plan was established with regard to the nature of Kathy, a 29-year-old woman with a six-year history of heroin use.

A number of things were taken into consideration in choosing the intervention plan for Kathy. The first consideration was that of the experiences Kathy has had with use of heroin together with her boyfriend. For instance, the case study indicates that she has suffered violence yet she is pregnant. The client has had immense influences on the use of heroin. This necessitated for a short and long-term plans that would bring immediate influence on the nature of use of heroin. The intervention plan is to cater for the needs of pregnancy as developed by Kathy. The other consideration was on the fact that the society from which the client hailed had to be searched with respect to the universal use of heroin. The plan necessitate that the nature of the society was studied as regards to the availability of the substances. The plan also considered the need to have a future intervention that enabled people with these problems to avoid getting back into the challenges. The longevity of the substance abuse and/or use, its effects on the psychological and physical well-being of the Kathy, together with the graduated process of dealing with the challenge were considered (Jigsaw Publications & James Bennett Pty. Ltd, 2012).

  1. What resources were required for the intervention?

Resources required for the intervention plan

Several resources are required in order to deal with people suffering from alcohol and/or other drugs like Kathy on heroin. These resources range from the physical facilities to the abstract materials that are required in order to deal with the problem. Psychological experts help to determine the magnitude to which the drugs had influenced Kathy. The psychiatric experts, doctors, and other drug specialists are some of the personnel that dealt with the problem of alcohol and other drug use among the clients at hand (Great Britain & Great Britain, 2010). The intervention requires different drugs for testing and monitoring the magnitude on the effects of heroin use. The intervention plan requires resources like research hospitals, research equipment, and time needed to have an overhaul understanding of the problem at hand. It requires experts from the pregnancy unit in order to deal with the case of heroin use amidst pregnancy. Furthermore, the intervention plan requires finances that will be utilized to bring out the challenge among the clients, and their respective procedures of dealing with them now and in the future (Barry et, al., 2001).

  1. How did the organization ensure the client’s level of understanding and commitment to the plan?

The organization ensured that Kathy was made aware of the program that is being done in order to aid him/her through the challenges being faced. Through teaching, Kathy was made aware of the need to have a procedural understanding of what is to be done in order to deal with the challenge of dealing with heroin and pregnancy together with their effects on use. The client was assisted with therapeutic teachings that helped to bring more understanding on the influences of having to deal with the problem at hand. Furthermore, the client was made to take responsibility of having to handle the intervention plan since all the benefits were directed at her. The medical condition of the client was made known to all the concerned parties together with the outcomes and activities to be done, all before the start of the intervention plan (Brady & National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre, 2012).

  1. Describe any challenges which were experienced by the client?

Challenges that were experienced by Kathy

The client together with the team in duty experienced a number of challenges in the entire process. Initially, the drug experts experienced the problems. On the side of Kathy, there were psychological and financial problems like being in a position of not managing to pay for the rent. Nonetheless, it became efficient that the client experienced even more challenges than were experienced by the experts. Heroin addiction together with pregnancy and the departing boy friend added a lot of trouble to the entire process on the side of Kathy. It was difficult for the client to have a firm understanding of what was taking place in the intervention plan. The client had to be taken through a vigorous program that appeared new and with new modes of living that were required of him. Initially, the client appeared to be excited by the program. Nonetheless, with the magnitude of addiction that had been developed, it was difficult for the client to experience a wholesome process of keeping with the intrinsic requirements. Furthermore, the client developed challenges with use of the resources and medical processes that were directed at dealing with the issues of alcohol and other drug use in life. Addiction to heroin was a great challenge that had to be handled by the experts and the client herself (Barry et, al., 2001).

  1. How was the overall progress of the client monitored and evaluated?

How the overall progress of client monitoring and evaluation took place

The process of monitoring and evaluating the client went on without any major difficulty. Nonetheless, there are several challenges that were experienced. Intervention plans targeted at all the people who were willing to be part of the necessary steps that ensured corrective measures are a necessity in their pursuit for an alcohol and drug-free life. The entire process was conducted in stepwise procedure that ensured a quick and categorical healing process was administered to the Kathy. The client responded with positivity and procedural considerations that made the intervention plans to be successful since the family was also involved. All the concerned parties were made to be aware of the fact that there is need to have the plan successful since its success was considered a success to the victims of heroin addiction like Kathy and her boyfriend (Roman, 2001).

1. What skills do you have that enable you to conduct an assessment and intervention plan?

I have intervention skills. These are useful in bringing the client back to the innate psychological stability. Moreover, I have psychology skills that can be used to better the feelings and situations of the client at hand.

2. What skills do you need to develop to conduct an assessment and intervention plan?

I need research, assimilation, and simulation skills in order to manage and conduct the assessment and intervention plan. I need to have innate knowledge on drug use and abuse together with their varied effects (Barry et, al., 2001).

3. What are the ways in which you could develop these skills?

In order to develop these skills, I need further exposure, fieldwork, and vast study (Roman, 2001).
