Introduction

The success of the project depends on the best practices employed. However, this depends on the skills and competency of the project management team (Eric 2003). The technology lab project was successful because of careful planning and commitment of the project team members. The purpose of this section is to discuss the best practices applied to accomplish the project successfully.

Project best practices

The first best skill was careful planning. It was the fundamental concept that contributed to project success. The project document was used to plan the different phases of the project. The overview of the project was clearly stated as well as the objectives (Iman 2008). In the process, the project management team measured the progress of the project by the stated objectives. Also, the stakeholders understood the project scope that was to install music technology lab. Therefore, careful planning contributed to the project success.

The other best practice that supported project success is project work plan. It helped to indicate the steps and processed taken to perform identified tasks (Iman 2008). The work-plan is not complete without allocating resources to each task. The management team allocated resources including financial and human resources. However, it was flexible so that the dynamics of the project implementation process can be fixed to protect the project from deviation.

Also, the music technology lab project was successful because of the effective monitoring of the work plan and schedule. It is important to develop procedures used to monitor the program. Each activity is planned adequately. For instance, the curriculum activity was outsourced so that the steps in implementing the project are effective and its implementation is at the right time (Eric 2003). Besides, the management team reviewed the work plan on a weekly basis. A report is prepared with recommendations highlighting the achievements and failures. It helps to identify activities not completed within the stipulated time. The objectives are reviewed to improve on the next activities.

Besides, the other necessary useful practice is the risk assessment. For any successful project, risk assessment register is a must. It helps to understand the risks facing the project as well as the signs indicating the availability of risks (Iman 2008). There can be a small variation from the schedule, and this will affect the entire project. Therefore, nothing is left to chances. The project manager together with the management team was able to identify key risks. As a result, there was no deviation from the schedule.

However, other best practices could have improved project implementation. Firstly, the leadership will have diversified the sponsorship of the project. Installing a modern technology lab requires massive financial resources (Eric 2003). Currently, the financial resources of the project did not meet the required standards. For instance, with more capital more chairs and computers will be added. It is done considering the expected rising number of target customers. Moreover, time management was an issue and almost affected project success. In this regard, scheduling and curriculum developed must allocate adequate time to each activity so that tasks are performed comprehensively, and this will manage the incidence last hour rush.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the project was successful because the team practiced best exercises. Firstly, there was careful planning, and this helped to develop scope and project objectives. Furthermore, risk assessment and careful scheduling, as well as curriculum, were competent. However, time management strategies will be improved in the future.
