Post-Structuralism and Post-Modernism

The concepts of post-structuralism vary in practice and political implications. However, despite the differences, they share fundamental assumptions in terms of language, meaning and subjectivity. The fundamental assumptions is how meaning is made in the language and hence leading to the subjectivity. According to Weedon, (1997), subjectivity is usually constructed unlike the language which is has some elements of place and identity. I therefore find this information important in terms of explaining the concepts of post structuralism. To me, this implies that the interpretation of the issues may lead to subjectivity. This is also dependant on how the process of interpretation takes place. Weedon (1997) further argues that the concepts of poststructuralist consider subjectivity as a source of conflict and disunity.

The concepts of post-structuralism and post modernism are also important in terms of differentiating the modern and the past differences. However, Weedon, (1997) argues that post-structuralism has both the ethical and political implications. The political implications are due to the political changes that usually result from post-structuralism. I therefore think that leaving modernity results to different problems in the society with the political problems being the most common. Post modernism has a lot of influence in different fields according to Usher, et al, (1997). In the field of education, it influences the thoughts of the learners and hence contributing to critical thinking which is related to politics. I therefore think that the modern education is influenced by the concepts of both modernism and post-structuralism and it determines the level of knowledge impacted on the learners.
