I am a student in diplomatic relations. I have great passion in diplomacy which has made me dedicate a lot of my time on attaining the skills needed. I am very devoted to my career path of becoming a professional diplomat.

Specialities

In my years of learning in diplomacy, I have learnt the importance of patience. I understand that if I am not getting my point to be understood, the best way is to figure out what I am not communicating clearly and change my way of communicating. One must be ready to change their actions and not become frustrated with others since communication is a two way process.

In my line of work and training, I believe compassion is one of the most important skills. I am supposed to have compassion to others and be sensitive to their needs. Dispute resolution requires one to be compassionate and be willing to listen to others. Diplomacy is about maintaining peace and harmony in society hence I do all I can in ensuring that I resolve issues peacefully.

Experience

I have been in the military training where I learnt a lot on discipline and punctuality. I have also participated in mechanic maintenance.

Education

I have completed my high school education and currently pursuing a course in diplomacy.

Interests

I am very interested in dispute resolution and peace keeping. The two areas are intertwined and I believe a diplomat should be fluent in both areas.

Importance of LinkedIn profile

I believe that LinkedIn is very vital in my job search. This is due to fact that a lot of recruiters at the moment are using social media and professional websites when hiring. Research shows about 90 % of employers uses LinkedIn when hiring. Another reason why LinkedIn is important is the fact that users posts jobs in the website. Through viewing the job details posted on the LinkedIn one is able to trace who posted and how they are related in the website. It is also possible to see the number of applicants in a given job using LinkedIn. I also believe that use of LinkedIn increases the users’ visibility to potential employers. The website is optimised making it possible to deliver its information directly to Google. Through use of LinkedIn, it is possible to market myself to the potential employers. This is through demonstrating my expertise as well as listing it. LinkedIn is a site where one can share important information and updates about career (Gerard, 2011). This makes me believe that building my LinkedIn profile is very reasonable as a job seeker. If one has a strong profile on LinkedIn, it becomes possible to rank top on Google search results.

Facebook and Twitter

I believe twitter and Facebook are also very relevant in my career plan. Facebook is vital since it provides visibility required. At the moment, a lot of employers have a Facebook page where they even post job offers. Recruiters use Facebook in some cases when hiring. Twitter has been very useful in talent search for many firms. According to Crompton and Sautter (2010), having a twitter presence is one of the most important things. This involves use of keywords such as hashtags. It also requires adding links to increase visibility. Through twitter, it is possible to gain information on job listing, organisations and employers (Benson, Morgan and Filippaios, 2014). Research shows that by having a large number of connections, one is able to create meaningful relationships (Sautter, 2010). It also helps one in searching for jobs through social media. Having a strong profile in the social media will help me stand out among other job seekers. This will be attained through search engine optimisation by using keywords and keeping constant updates. I will keep my information on social media current. I have also started creating my profile in SEEK as I prepare for job searching. This will help me to become ready for my first job.

Questions most likely to be asked in an interview

What are your career goals?

This is a question that I expect the employer to ask as they want to know how long I will stay with them. To answer this question, I will have to reassure the interview panel how the job fits well within my career plan. This will show my commitment to stay long and be committed to the job. My response will be – “My career goals are to attain a comprehensive experience in my career, gain expertise and stability. I want to be successful diplomat in this career through practice and dedication. This will require spending time in my job so that I gain experience. I want to work in this company to grow my career. I also want to attain my goals by being a dedicated diplomat who is keen on the job.”

What do you want to improve in your knowledge?

My response will be-“The field of diplomacy is revolutionary. This makes it very important to ensure one is updated with the developments. I want to keep enriching my knowledge on diplomacy. There are current issues in international relations that one has to keep updated on. The modern diplomacy is has been affected by the global change where there is shift in global powers and emerging economies. There are also new security threats. These are areas where I have to keep updating myself on.”

Why do you want this job?

“I believe am the best candidate for this job. I have always wanted to work with you since I joined this course in diplomacy. I am well informed on the job requirements and my skills are able to match them. I have an instinct to learn about the world, am also good in writing and communication skills (English and Arabic). I am attentive to details and well versed in history. I am well versed in the political ideology, policies and I believe this makes me an ideal candidate for this position.”

What are your weaknesses?

“My main weakness is being a perfectionist. This means that I sometime take long time in a task to make sure that the outcome is of high quality.”

Reflection on tutorial

The tutorial activity helped a lot in gaining knowledge on interviews. I was able to know how to conduct myself for an interview and how to answer the common interview questions. Through the tutorial, I am able to look for stories that illustrate my skills which will help in answering difficult questions. I have also realised that interviews can be used by employers to look for solutions. Through the tutorial, I feel ready to have my first interview. Despite this, I will have to enhance my skills on bahavorial interviews. Telling stories to sell my points is an area that I will be required to read more.

According to Stewart, Dustin, Barrick and Darnold (2008) job interviews are meant to access the level of professionalism. This includes aspects such as honesty, courteousness where exaggerations should not be used. They also test our interest and fitness into a given job. Huffcutt, Conway, Roth and Stone (2001) assert that a job interview is the time one is supposed to exhibit their talents. It is the moment one is supposed to determine their career path. This requires one to sell them well. In an interview, I will be required to convince the employer that I am capable of contributing to the company. This makes interview to be one of the most important event in career development.
