I observed a case where health care practitioners where attending to an obese patient. The patient was offered guidelines which were responsive to needs, preferences and concerns of patients. The practitioner was advocating of change of lifestyle for the obese patient. There was great involvement in safe medical systems and delivery of health care. Patients wanted to be given an option of continued take of sugary foods and light exercise. To his surprise the health care practitioner insisted the need to do regular exercise and reduce high intake of sugary foods. The matter of interest is how to make the patients live and stay on well.
The observed case was patient centered as the health care practitioner successively engaged the patient with patient incentives, information and encouragement, essence of communication and on alternative lifestyle of staying health.
Respect for the patients and family members will be a positive step towards healing of obese patient. The obese patient was first attended without consideration of ability of patient to meet medical treatment. There was careful interrogation of information relating to family situation, cultural traditions, lifestyles, social circumstances and personal values and preferences of patient (Sumsion, 2006).
The case of healthcare I did observe client centered healthcare. This is because there was active support and involvement of patients and responsible family members in the treatment and decision making process of treatment.
