Online Versus Traditional Learning

Online Versus Traditional Learning

Online learning has taken an exponential increase over the last decade with schools on all levels incorporating online learning activities and curriculums. The effectiveness of the online environment is apparent because the content is developed to suit the different learner’s approaches.

A traditional classroom offers a student an opportunity to interact with other students, peers, and instructors in the institution. Thus, the networking circle is limited to the people in the campus. However, the online environment exposes the student to a larger network of people from different locations and with diverse ideologies. The different dynamics in an online classroom have enhanced the spread of communication and information all over the world (NIC, 2004). The increase in online interactions has greatly contributed to the improvement of social infrastructures and gender equality in fields such as education and employment.

Education is a constant interaction between an instructor and as a student. In a traditional learning classroom, the teacher is a dictator because they provide all the necessary information needed by the learners. However, online learning activities only require the teacher to be an instructor. Therefore, there is limited interaction and the feedback is slower than in a traditional classroom. The limited supervision online has also had a negative spillover effect on young learners who are easily impressionable. Political and extremist groups are known to use different sites to lure the students to commit heinous acts (NIC, 2004). Thus, feedback from the students is essential because the instructors develop a personal relationship with the learners and this helps them understand the psychological state of the student.

Online education is constantly changing with the technology. The learning method has impacted on the social, political and economic well-being of all people globally. New technological applications are being used in schools to educate learners about how to advance revolutionary improvements in social and political relationships as well as fostering transnational enterprising for the benefit of all human-beings.
