A report on workplace diversity at Google indicates that the company is still dominated by white males. According to the report, 69% of the employees of the company are men while 31% are women. The report further indicates that 75% of the managers of the company are men and 68% of them are white. The company has acknowledged that it should address the issues indicated in the report. Of primary concern to the company is the fact that very few individuals of Asian and African descent are part of the technical or leadership carder of the employees of the company. The company intends to address the problem aggressively to ensure that more females and members of small ethnic groups get represented in its workforce. To achieve this objective, the company has announced that it is hiring a new Vice President to oversee diversity.

It has been reported that many leading companies are yet to fully implement the requirements of the White House Pledge. The White House Pledge is a special initiative to improve workplace diversity that was signed by leading tech firms in the United States of America in June 2016. According to the details of the pledge, leading tech firms are supposed to identify diversity gaps in their workforces and develop appropriate strategies to address the identified gaps. The initiative roped in all the leading Silicon Valley companies such as Apple, Microsoft, Intel and other emerging companies such as Lyft and Airbnb. However, it is reported that only 16 out of the more than 300 hundred companies that signed the pledge have successfully released their workplace diversity reports. Many of the companies are yet to release reports about the issue of workplace diversity.

The Chartered Management Institute (CMI) has released a report that indicates that there is an urgent need for stakeholders to create awareness on the issue of workplace diversity. According to the report, which is titled “Delivering Diversity”, companies and other stakeholders are relatively silent on the issue of workplace diversity. The report notes that many issues relating to the rights of blacks, Asians and other minority groups are largely ignored in the world today. However, it is noted that the approach that many stakeholders take towards the issue of workplace diversity cannot be regarded as a solution to the problems that individuals from minority groups face. The report recommends that companies and other stakeholders need to make concerted efforts as the first step in the process of solving the problem. CMI points out that it is only when companies create awareness of the plight of workers of Asian and black people that the issue can be fully addressed.

Authorities in New York have announced that they intend to use diversity as one of the most important parameters when determining the amount of money that they will be giving out to arts organisations in the city. According to the city’s mayor, de Blasio, it is important for the city authority to factor in the extent to which arts organisations that seek grants are diverse before deciding on the amount of money that the organisations should be given. The city authority receives many applications for grants from museums and other art-oriented organisations. The city authorities must use various criteria to settle on the amounts of money that they award to the organisations that succeed. However, it is reported that by taking into consideration diversity, the city authorities will play a leading role in enhancing workplace diversity in the arts organisations that operate in New York.

The Forbes magazine has indicated that workplace diversity is beneficial for all company stakeholders. It has been reported that when the workforce of a company is made up of individuals of both genders and from various backgrounds, the company ends up benefiting over the long time because of the variety in the input of the employees. The magazine has further indicated that the management teams of companies whose employees are from various backgrounds find it easy to make the most appropriate decisions for the company because they can easily tap into the knowledge and expertise of the company’s various employees. Furthermore, it has been noted that employees who work in companies whose workforces are diverse tend to benefit from the interaction with other individuals that they experience while at work. Thus, workplace diversity is regarded as a desirable feature for companies because it benefits employees, managers and other stakeholders.
