Introduction
The organizational behavior, it the field of study that explores the impact that groups, individuals as well as structure have on people’s behavior within an organization. The findings in such an investigation are applied within organizations so as to improve the effectiveness of an organization. Such findings are obtained through intuition that refers to an individual observation, gut feelings, and common sense or through systematic studies that
apply to predicting behavior, scientific evidence and looking at relationships. The above two approaches are complementary means of behavior prediction. The efficiency of a manager within an organization is based on his understanding of organizational behavior. It is in consensus that quantitative and technical skills are essential, but communication and leadership skills are critical when it comes to managerial work within an organization. This paper is aimed at discussing organizational behavior, factors affecting it and its importance within an organization.
Role of Mangers
Managers within organization ensure the organization’s goals are achieved through coordinating the work of other people. Managers play various roles such as decision making, resource allocation and direct activities of other workers to attain goals. The primary functions of management include planning, organizing, controlling and leading. Planning involves defining goals, creating strategies and developing plans for coordinating activities. The role of organizing includes determining the tasks to be done, the people to accomplish them, how to group the tasks, who should report to whom and where decisions are to be made. The role of control involves monitoring the performance, drawing a comparison of the set goals with the actual performance as well as correcting any deviation. On the other hand, the role of lead involves employees’ motivation, giving directions, identifying the most effective channels of communication as well as resolving conflicts. This function is more complicated as compared to others because it involves people.
Advantages of Organizational Behavior
There are several advantages associated with the understanding of organizational behavior. It enables organizations to respond to globalization, manage workforce diversity, improve productivity and quality, improve customer services and people skills, stimulates innovation and change, helps employees balance work-life conflicts, creates a positive work environment as well as improving workers’ ethical behavior. Organizations that are managed by skilled managers with an understanding of organizational behavior experience lower loss of quality employees, better-qualified applicants for recruitments and improved financial performance.
Factors Affecting Organizational Behavior: Emotions and Moods
Emotions and moods have impacts on organizational behavior. Emotions are described as the intense feelings usually directed at something or someone while moods refer to feelings that are less intense when compared to emotions and lack contextual stimulus. Emotions play a critical role in making rational decisions as well as in understanding the world around us. It is believed that the sources of emotions and moods include personality, time and day of the week, sleep, exercise, age, gender, weather, stress and social activities.
Usually, there is emotional dissonance where employees are expected to project one emotion while at the same time experiencing a different feeling and this can be very damaging and can lead to burnout. This can be achieved through surface acting (displaying feelings that are considered appropriate while experiencing different emotions internally) or deep acting (changing internal feelings so that they can match display rules).

Organizational behavior is also affected by emotional intelligence factor. Emotional acumen is considered as the ability to recognize one’s emotions, detecting emotions in other people as well being able to manage information and emotional cues. Emotional intelligence has an impact on job performance. Emotions and moods are important factors to be considered in organizational behavior. These effects are put into consideration while recruiting and particularly for social jobs, in decision making, creativity, motivation, leadership, negotiation, consumer service, job attitudes, manager’s influence and deviant workplace behaviors. It is important to note that emotions and moods have some effects on every area of organizational behavior and that behavior predictions cannot be accurate if emotions are not put into consideration. Managers, as well as other workers, should not ignore emotions of other coworkers and employees.
Factors Affecting Organizational Behavior: Motivation
Employees in an organization need to be motivated and satisfied for them to perform effectively. Employees working on jobs that have high core dimensions are more satisfied, motivated and productive. Job dimensions function through the psychological states to influence work and personal outcome variables instead of influencing them in a direct way. The motivating potential score (MPS) is considered as the sum of skill variety, task identity, and task significant, multiplied by autonomy and feedback. This means that for employees to get motivated, managers should recognize individual differences among them make use of goals and feedback, involve them in decision making especially where decisions affect them, relate rewards to performance and check the reward structure for equity.
Factors Affecting Organizational Behavior: Team Work
Teamwork is very effective in improving the performance of employees within an organization. It has been considered as an effective way of capturing the employees’ talents; a means of assembling deploying focusing and disbanding; encourage employee’s participation and democratize an organization hence increase motivation. Teams that are effective are characterized by adequate resources, a climate of trust, effective leadership, appropriate evaluation and reward systems, engage in tasks that provide autonomy and freedom and have members who believe incapability of the team. Managers should, therefore, modify the working environment and select team-oriented employees as a means of developing effective teamwork.
Factors Affecting Organizational Behavior: Creativity
Creativity is also critical in improving organizational behavior. It involves relating things that are not related, doing what other people have not done, expecting the unexpected, making one’s product obsolete, not considering the things in existence as the best, challenging the things that are accepted and bringing out items that consumers were not aware that they needed them. Creative negotiation is also important in that it enables one to reach an agreement by determining differences through creativity. An effective negotiator is versatile, creative, motivated and has the capability of walking away.
Conclusion
In conclusion, organizational behavior is very critical when it comes to the employees’ performance within an organization. Several factors such as moods and emotions, creativity and motivation affect organizational behavior. Managers, as well as other workers within an organization, should acquire the skills of organization behavior so that they can be effective in their performance.
