5PERSONAL WORK PRIORITIES

Manage Personal Work Priorities and Professional Development

Manage Personal Work Priorities and Professional Development

Section 1

I work in a security department in Qatar Petroleum Company in Mesaieed, as a General Foreman. The company is within the southern part of Qatar. In this region, numerous plants specialize in gas and petrochemical production, manufacturing, and distribution in accordance with the needs and preferences of the company. In this employment opportunity, I am responsible for 45 staff within the company. In the course of handling this position, I have the obligation of directing and executing various service maintenance activities in support of drilling operations. In addition, I am responsible for monitoring welfare of numerous camp residents with reference to accommodation, hygiene, and recreation. I also assist in enforcing the team towards implementation of standards, regulations, and procedures in accordance with the demands of the industry of transaction. My goal is to be a human resource manager of the company to facilitate the effectiveness and efficiency of the workers towards pursuing competitive advantage in the petroleum industry. My personal goal ensures that I work closely with the 45 workers towards the achievement of the goals and objectives of the company in the most effective and efficient ways.

Section 2

In the course of handling duties and responsibilities of the job, I tend to use a 2X2 matrix table in determining important and less important tasks.

Not Urgent

Important

Emergency issue, VIP visitors, timesheet, and recording of equipment resources and tools

Planning, Reading News Articles, and Solving issues among employees

Less Important

Personal phone calls, e-mails, and presentation of monthly reports

Junk mail, irrelevant activities, and interactions among employees

In order to execute these duties, I tend to focus on the urgent and important tasks while delegating duties of the less important tasks to trusted employees in attempts to train them on responsibility and management. This approach is essential in handling the needs and preferences of the consumers in accordance with the policies and objectives of the business entity in the market and industry of operation.

Section 3

In the course of executing my responsibilities and duties as the General Foreman in this petroleum firm, I use three critical technological tools for the achievement of effectiveness and efficiency. In addition, these tools are essential in reducing risks and costs of operations. In the first instance, I use a computer system to record vital information in relation to managing resources and attendance of employees as well as allocation of duties. Moreover, I use the computer system to decode the findings of another critical tool in the form of CCTV camera. The camera is essential in monitoring and supervising the operations of the 45 personnel in the course of executing their duties and obligation. I also use mobile phones to communicate with the supervisor as well as employees under my supervision. These technological tools focus on enhancing effectiveness and efficiency of the employees while contributing towards the achievement of the common goal, which relates to competitive advantage in the petroleum industry in Qatar.

Section 4

One of the potential changes that might affect the operations of the security department is a budget cut. This change will have negative implications on the number of tools as well as employees within the department. One of the major impacts is the reduction in the number of the workforce to accommodate the budget cut. In addition, the approach will be essential in the achievement of effectiveness and efficiency in exploiting the potentiality and skills of the employees in the course of handling the needs and preferences of the clients within the petroleum industry. Another potential challenge is the changes to staff. This might contribute towards reorientation as well as reallocation of duties and responsibilities among the existing and new employees for the achievement of goals and targets. It is ideal to reorient the new employees to acquire or occupy the vacant positions within the department for the improvement of effectiveness and efficiency in the service and products for realization of competitive advantage in the market and industry of transaction.

Section 5

In this context, I would consider delegation of duties to some of the employees under my responsibilities in the course of enhancing their efficiency in delivering the goals and targets of the business entity. The approach will require training and organization of the group in teams under the management of efficient team leaders. The approach will also enable me to reduce the amount of work from my supervisor. On the other hand, I might consider prioritization of the work in accordance with importance and urgency to minimize the level of stress in the course of handling responsibilities from the supervisor (Zeigler, 2005). The approach is flexible and competent thus reducing the level of stress in executing duties and responsibilities as the General Foreman in the petroleum field within the security department.
