An Important Facet of the Role of Clinical Leaders is Their Contribution to the Quality of Patient Care

Clinical leaders play a critical role in the improvement of care quality to patients. As professionals and stakeholders in the healthcare sector, their contribution is inevitable. This essay establishes the role of clinical leaders a crucial facet in enhancing the quality of patient care.

Guidance and provision of strategic skills to healthcare professionals promotes excellence and overall quality of care (Davidson, Elliott and Daly, 2006). Leadership impact brings about improved policy formulation resulting to excellence in service delivery. Clinical leaders as reported by Gallup (2010), cited in Stanley (2011) have substantial influence in patient care. With strategic measures to mentor, as well as the introduction of new leadership styles among health professional, their skills and experiences are enhanced contributing to improved patient care (Davidson et al., 2006). The introduction of efficient leadership styles in healthcare systems promotes not only the way of practice, but also brings about a dynamic nature that promotes achievement of success. Further, Stanton, Lemer and Mountford (2010) indicate that it is time for leaders to take decisive action and initiate change within their area of operation (Stanley, 2011). Thus, clinical leaders at all levels of health system have the potential to influence and direct patient care through coming up with standard leadership, as well as embracing excellence in practice (Lunn, et al., 2008). The end result is improved access to quality care for patients.

In conclusion, effective clinical leadership enhances skills development and knowledge among health professionals to promote quality of care. By coming up with the right leadership strategies and styles in a given health setting, health professionals are empowered to raise the standards of practice. Thus, clinical leaders play a pivotal role in realising improved quality of patients care.
