Barceló Group of Hotels is one of Spain’s leading tourist companies and one of the most important worldwide. Its hotel and travel departmental functions operate more than 185 hotels all over the world which includes 15 countries. One Hotel under its name in London is the Cotswold’s which a 4Star Premium Barceló is; it is ideal for a relaxing break and has been in existence since the 16th Century. It is situated in Broadway, 15 mile from Stratford-upon Avon to the north and Cheltenham to the south, and boasts of 77 rooms including 7 stunning suite.

Barceló Hotel uses a management system know as Abacre which greatly helps in reservation check in and check outs, helps in billing and tax reports, this greatly helps the staff work swiftly and with minimum errors. It is usually high speed software and is designed for using multiple computers at the same time. It also has reliable and secure authorization levels that prevent hackers or any unauthorized persons from accessing it.

It’s widely recommended as it enhances payments from the use of cash, credit card and checks hence convenient for a wide range of customers with different needs and expectations.

It also helps the top managers to retrieve reports and at large will improve guests handling. It is also easy to install and use. Rainer & Cegielski (2009), claim that the reason for organizing a hotel in departments is to group employees who perform similar tasks or have similar skills. This helps in work specialization hence efficiency. The departments in the hotel include; Front Office, Housekeeping, Accounting, Marketing, Food and Beverage and Personnel.

Types of systems

Satzinger, Jackson & Burd (2008) view that there are several types of organization structures in the worlds organization, these includes; Hierarchical, Vertical and Clustered. Work Integrated Learning (WIL) allows the students acquire practical skills which they have learnt theoretically from the campuses through being exposed to the outside world. The hotel industry has always provided a link for this important instructional process before they complete their studies

This approach will entirely give us the students an opportunity to learn more. With the selection of Barceló group of hotels will enable me to have an international level of knowledge on how it works and be fully equipped at the end of the training. WIL is often referred to as real world or reality learning, it is a participatory method that involves a wide range of a person’s mental capabilities and exists when a student processes information in an active and extensive learning environment.

Under WIL theory, learning is considered to be a continuous process in which knowledge is created by transforming experience into existing cognitive frameworks, thus changing the way a person thinks and behaves. It influences students to take action, observe this action, and then conclude on general principles related to the particular action model of WIL cycle contains four steps describe the process of Learning under a WIL approach. These include Concrete Experience, Reflective Observation, Abstract Conceptualization and finally Active experimentation. For this to be accurate and all the four stages must be completed in order to produce the best outcome the process, however, is that for effective learning to take place, all four stages of this cycle must be completed

The hierarchical system ensures that the staff know well whom to report to and what is expected of them this will reduce role conflict in the long run hence staff will always be motivated (Satzinger, Jackson & Burd, 2008). The system also helps ensure that the different levels of management perform their duties accordingly from the reports derived whether daily or weekly or even monthly.

3223HSL Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Internship this is the most preferred because I will get to learn first hand on what actually happens at the ground and get to interact with the professions at Barceló Hotels. Having had a quick interview with the Personnel manager it will be a great experience having to work with them. This is because they have a wide range of customers from all over the world who have different customer expectations and are required to be treated just right. Through this experience I will also be able to handle anything that comes my way and do it appropriately.

Practical experience is vital as one cannot rely on theories only to be able to work and ensure that the guests are satisfied. The hotel industry being one of the most delicate industries should be taken care of and this is vital as it will ensure the customer retention. The hotel is also quite flexible in their working hence not a stressing place to work in and its also quite friendly from the junior staff to the top most Managers.
