In our team, there were a number of challenges that presented themselves and which affected our performance as a team in one way or the other. For instance, time management proved to be an uphill task for many team members due to work and family commitments. This was fuelled by the fact that our team was composed of working and family people which made it difficult to bring together all team members at any particular time. The second challenge was lack of effective communication among the team members due to varying personality traits.

Some team members were more dominant while others seemed anxious. Others were more demanding which increased tensions in the team thus making the interaction levels of the team members ineffective (Xyrichis & Ream, 2008). The third challenge was that some members of the team were not committed to the team assignment which left just a few people to perform and undertake major tasks in the team. Basing on the above challenges experienced by our team;

The first area for improvement would be on time management. The rationale for this choice is that ineffective time management on the part of team members such as arriving late during group discussions affected the schedule of team activities as had been laid down by the team members. Hence, time management would necessitate proper assignment of roles and sticking within the team schedule in order to achieve the anticipated objectives.

The second area for improvement is communication. The rationale for this choice is that communication is the most important tool that keeps the team moving forward. Discussions within the team are only possible through communication. Ineffective communication due to negative attitudes brought by team members in the group proved hazardous to the proper functioning of the team (Davis, 2007). Hence, improving on communication would require that team member sheds off their attitudes and their dominating and demanding attitudes and tread on a level platform in order to respect and appreciate other people’s contributions in the group work.

The third area for improvement is to enhance commitment of the team members. The rationale for this is that without commitment from some team members the workload was too much for the few committed team members to bear. This increased tension and conflict in the team thus diluting the purpose of the team (Wheelan, 2010). Hence, the level of participation of the team members should increase in order to achieve the objectives of the team within the required time frame. For example, in order to effectively address 4 out of 9 learning outcomes for the unit every team member needed to show a high level of participation and commitment.

The fourth area for improvement would be enhancing the presentation of the team work through props and activities rather than overloading slides with too many words. The rationale for this is that the attention of the audiences could have been captured easily using eye-catching concepts such as props and activities rather than too many words (Ken, 2008). The use of easy and understandable formal language would be an important step towards capturing the attention of the audience.
