There are different components of emotional intelligence. These components include self-regulation, self-awareness, empathy, social skills and motivation. Among the listed components, motivation, social skills and self-awareness are the most competent. Motivation is more a knowledgeable component of emotional intelligence. Motivation refers entails a passion that drives people to work proficiently towards the achievement of certain goals. Motivated leaders show a great level of self-empowerment and have a high capability of achieving their goals in life.

Consequently, social skills are a key module of emotional intelligence. These skills enable a leader to build a better working ground and relate well with their environment. Individuals can only be fruitful if they can relate well with their working environment. A competent leader also needs to be self-aware. Leaders need to understand their needs, emotions, energies and their consequences. By so doing, self-awareness enables the leader to know his work limits depending on who they are. On an individualistic perspective self-awareness played an essential role in attaining self-developed goals and long-term objectives as a student’s leader in college.

Student leaders have to understand their strengths and weaknesses for a better control of the whole school student body. Motivation towards the achievement of specified goals is essential for student leader despite the challenges faced. Subsequently, student leaders need social skills that enhance them to create a relational working relationship with fellow students.

Conversely, empathy is less competent component of better leadership. Empathy entails treatment of various people depending on their emotional makeup which defines the difference in persons. For the achievement of a common goal there must be coordination if not oneness. Unlike for empathy which emphasizes on handling people differently depending on their makeup. Instead, democracy should be promoted to give room for views from all corners rather than empathising.
