Marcus being a jovial kid, he shows a change of behavior through crying and isolating himself from his fellow students. When they get closer to him, he yells at them and tells them to leave him alone. He stops crying the moment his uncle leaves (Al-Dabaan et al. 78). This shows that he is angry at his uncle.
Marcus feels abandoned by his mother. He is deprived of motherly love which causes him to act up. He is left under the care of his mother’s friend or even relatives while she goes out to have fun (Hoyle et al. 106). She assumes that the son is comfortable and that’s why she decided to leave him with his relatives not really considering the happiness of her son.
First, I would ask Marcus why he is crying. Then I would further probe him to confide in me why he stopped crying when his uncle left.
Marcus is left under the care of his uncle who is an alcoholic. This is seen when Marcus is dropped off by his uncle, he smells of alcohol. His uncle does not bother explaining why Marcus is crying or does not make effort to keep him calm but rather just drives away (Hurst et al. 9). Marcus vulnerability to abuse is noticed when he stops crying and calms down the moment his uncle leaves.
This case study shows that in some way, abuse is involved. This is evident when Marcus stops crying when his uncle leaves after dropping him off. It is not the nature of Marcus to be moody but on this day, he is crying and very upset. He even refuses to associate with his friends. Marcus’ uncle drops him off with some stench of alcohol in his breathe. Moreover, he raises concern when he fails to communicate with any of the educators (Hurst et al. 9).
First, is to report the issue to the head of the institution. After further probing, we then inform the relevant law enforcement agency on matters affecting Marcus. Marcus will be put on protective custody as investigations are carried out on the allegations presented. If guilty the suspect is arraigned in court and should be out behind bars while Marcus undergoes child counseling therapy sessions.
Use of employment contracts containing confidentiality clauses.
Whenever there are new employees in the workplace, have them sign an employments contract that contains a confidentiality clause. These will help them agree to keep matters of the workplace private.
Developing confidentiality policies.
Training can also be offered to the employees. This will teach them to handle or to dispose sensitive material or information concerning the workplace. Alongside the teachings, the employees must be informed on the repercussion of violating the private policies.
Creating a contingency plan.
Devising a response plan in case the private matter goes out is essential. As they say, “one must be ready at all time.”
Response 2: You speak with the other staff and organize for some children to go outside with you.
Response 1: You ask if they are hungry or thirsty and they say no, so you leave them to continue building, but let them know that there are drinks available if needed.
Response 1: You take the infant to bed and save lunch for her when she wakes up.
Response 2: You take the child out, as there is enough staff to supervise the other children and the child seems very concerned.
Response 1: You explain that you want the car to be safe, so maybe the child should put it in their pocket for today.
Response 2: Your co-worker agrees and you start to use simple strategies to support the child.
Response 1: You research the ratios for staff to children and also qualify staff to children. You find this inappropriate, so you discuss some findings with the director.
ASSESSMENT ACTIVITY 2
Ronald should include;
The state of the burns or the blister, whether they are fresh or not.
The reaction of Caleb after being questioned regarding the marks.
The question asked, his approach to Caleb while asking the question, and the tone he used.
Ronald’s report is quite judgmental. He is already accusing the mother of harming her son yet no investigation have been made to prove this. All that has led to Ronald making this report is what he overheard Caleb’s mum tell another parent (Al-Dabaan et al. 78). He has also not included all the information to give it a clear picture. For example he should have investigated, who is the Caleb’s custodian when his mother is away. He should also have investigated the cause of the blister and the bruise. Ronald can only confirm these allegations by providing enough proof of child abuse.
Ronald should not include this information in his report since they are biased and insubstantial. First, he has no evidence linking Caleb’s mother to the blister and the bruise on Caleb’s back. Second, Ronald’s statement that declares Caleb’s mother as unfit to take care of her child is biased. Furthermore it is harsh. According to the code of ethics that regulates Ronald’s career, he has an obligation to report such kind of cases since the requirements mandate him to prioritize the child’s interest, safety and healthy learning environment.
Since Ronald has already made his report, he should step down for the relevant law enforcement agencies to take over the case. Investigations will be made on the allegations. Meanwhile Caleb receives both mental and physical treatment. If the accused is found guilty, the court will decide on how many years she stays behind bars and if not guilty, they set a date for the hearing and released on cash bail. The court then decided on the child’s custody.
I would contact The Global Fund for Children (GFC) which provides critical services to vulnerable kids. This organization aims at transforming the lives of children who have been abused, who have undergone trafficking, refugees and even child laborers. It helps them regain their rights as well as to pursue their dreams. It reviews the reports regarding child abuse and neglect and develops special measures that discourage any form of violence towards children.
ASSESSMENT ACTIVITY 3
This is an ethical dilemma because this staff member, who has her grandchild in her class, is hostile and harsh towards the other children and she clearly favors her grandchild but all the same she is a fellow workmate which makes it hard to report her. Moreover, this behavior only happens when you are just the two of you with the group of children. Any other staff member walks in, she put on a sweet voice and a child- focused approach towards the children. In this scenario, the principle of ethical behavior that should be upheld is to report the misconduct. Work staff should be committed and ready to foster a culture of compliance. Any known or expected violation of policies must be reported to appropriate offices.
The staff member breaches professional boundaries when she favors her grandchild and openly shows hostility to the other children. These actions violate the early childhood Australia code of ethics that require the staff members to treat all the children equally and maintain a healthy environment that enhances child learning.
I should inform my immediate supervisor on the unethical behaviors of the staff member.

I would advise the staff member to treat all the children equally. In case the employee does not change her conduct, I would then resolve the situation by reporting her to our supervisors for disciplinary action to be taken against her.
This is an ethical dilemma because, there is no proof about the allegations coming from the child about the other staff member, but still it is a serious issue and cannot be ignored. The authenticity of the allegations and the safety of the child must be put to consideration. Further investigations have to be made before reporting to the higher offices.
First, I would enquire from the child how it all started. Then further inquire on the educator’s side of the story. After which I will report to the higher authorities. If the educator is found guilty, the higher offices will know how to handle him. If the educator is innocent, I will make it known to the child the seriousness of such an acquisition and make the child apologize and promise never to repeat the behavior again.

Report the matter to the relevant law enforcement agency as it is my duty to ensure children and young people are protected and their rights are not violated in anyway.
