Currently, cheating among the college students is very rampant. There is very little research findings in this field. The main objective of this paper is therefore to present a study that investigates the feelings of exam cheating by college students. The comparisons with the other contexts were achievable because unidentified questionnaire was employed for the study. The participants were college students (n=10) from various academic levels and disciplines. The results concur with the fact that cheating is an educational vice.

In the past decade, cheating among the college students has been increasing. Basically, cheating is not a new phenomenon but has been well-known in most academic institutions in the world. Due to moral and ethical character of this problem, it is extremely hard to research more in this field simply because of student integrity

. Regardless of sweetness of the fruits, learners have an impression that provokes their conscience of what they have done. It is worth therefore knowing the impression that one gets after cheating. (Bowers)
Students have a false feeling that “everybody is cheating” or “cheating is a habit”. However, they don’t care much about their feelings after doing it. The aftermath outcomes of every act usually have an impact on the doer

The main aim of the study is to investigate the impression that learners have after cheating in their study. It gives the overall feeling of how the students react or behave after the exercise.

It also aims to investigate the frequency of cheating i.e. to know how frequent do students cheat.

In order to collect data, a set of questionnaires was used. Different forms of cheating impressions were structured in form of questions whereby the respondents were to fill and give their opinions towards it. In essence, ten respondents were sampled and their views analyzed (Bowers).


From a sample of ten respondents, the results indicate that 90% have cheated before and agree that cheating is not realistic way achieving in life. 22% of the respondents also confirm that they rarely cheat while 77% agree that they can cheat a times. Contrary, 77% of them ascertain that they are ashamed of the act while the rest have no shame. Nevertheless, 33% of them are ashamed and stressed of cheating at that time of cheating whereas 66% feel the impression later. However, the degree of shame varies. 14% have a very strong feeling while 28% have very weak feeling about it.

Furthermore, 77% of the respondents agree that they are neither satisfied nor happy and 22% are very happy of the act. Ethically, cheating lowers self esteem as confirmed by 66% of the respondents. Ironically, 33% are against this. On average, half of the respondents are either satisfied or dissatisfied of cheating.


From the findings, it is clear that students cheat at times in the studies although they are guilty of their act. Students are ashamed of their act but they continue with the act. Since cheating has been an academic misconduct, the concerned authority should address the issue carefully by employing corrective measures. This may be instilling strict discipline on the victims, teachers to be vigilant and providing counseling services (McCabe).
