Gender Equality

Equality between the sexes is the equal treatment of every person without discrimination based on their gender. The United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights has an objective which aims at creating a law that focuses on equality and the social institutions like every person doing similar work is entitled to equal pay. The primary goal of gender equality especially in society is for every individual to be subjected to equal treatment and not only in politics but all disciplines in the community. This assignment is going to discuss the global dimension about gender equality, the national dimension on equality between the sexes and self-reflection.

Gender Equality in Global Dimension

There are vital procedures of international trade and finance in globalization that unite and increasingly incorporate national economies (UNFPA, 2008). These procedures have got effects on the locally based labor markets on the working conditions, relationships and employment structures, the labor force participation of men and women and finally, the wages paid to the laborers. Globalization all over the world has enabled countries to have access to the greater workforce. Gender equality in globalization is useful for encouraging good globalization that promotes opportunity for all, gives men and women equal chance to participate in democracy and meet their aspirations and material prosperity (McClain & Grossman, 2009). The common reason for addressing gender issues according to the World Commission on the Social Dimension of Globalization is that women are the majority leaders in labor-intensive workforces. The commission also states that women are on the frontier of export industries in the countries that are developing, they dominate the service workers of the international migration and focuses more on jobs that are in the global production systems (Sydney, 2015).

Gender Equality in the National Dimension

For instance, there are still many challenges remaining on gender equality that the UAE did not address for example, the practice of disciplining wives, the movement of women during divorce and marriage, citizenship denial to the children of National women who are married to non-nationals and women discrimination against state-funded entities like housing programs. There is also women’s labor in the informal sector which also needs addressing, and this is because there is an increase in the number of women-led-businesses in the UAE who are unregistered in the formal sector (Kate, 2016).

Personally, I believe that women’s efforts are required in constructing a modern state. The UAE in the region provides women with equal access to economic decision-making, decent work, health care and education, making it a leader in gender equality. The UAE has close to 95 percent rate of literacy in both men and women, but women complete secondary school and enroll in post-graduate institutions and universities than men.

In conclusion, gender equality should be promoted through investments, public interventions, communities and individuals and for this to happen, gender equality should be recognized as a motor for development and a human right. There are commitments and gender strategies that are designed to target gender making them gender-sensitive that can be used to nurture the evolvement and recreational activities of values, attitudes and cultural practices that relate to the role of men and women in the society (Gregory, 2015). Gender attention and perspectives to the primary goal of gender equality should be central to all activities. Therefore, gender equality is essential globally, nationally and it affects our day to day activities because discrimination is described as a thief to development.
