Assessment activity 1
Question 1
Marcus shows a change in behavior through crying and isolation from other children. These actions show that the boy is angry at his uncle since Marcus stops crying when the uncle leaves. Additionally, Marcus’ yelling and separation from other children demonstrate his projection of anger to others. This behavior is unusual considering the boy’s jovial and interactive nature (Al-Dabaan et al. 78).
Question 2
Marcus’ response demonstrates his mother’s neglect of the boy. This desertion is an unintentional move since it results from her desire for a better social life. Besides, Marcus abandonment is furthered by his mother’s trust of relatives and friends. This trust makes her assume that Marcus is comfortable in their care. That is why she chooses to leave the Marcus with the relatives and friends regardless of their conduct and care for the boy (Hoyle et al. 106).
Question 3
I would ask Marcus if everything is okay back at home.
Question 4
The abandonment of Marcus by his mother indicates Marcus’ vulnerability to abuse. This desertion gives Marcus’ uncle the chance to harm the boy without exposure. Marcus’ mother’s preoccupation makes the detection of Marcus’ change in behavior hard. Since she is busy improving her social life, she gets a little time to observe and notice the change in Marcus’ behavior.
Additionally, the abandonment made Marcus more vulnerable by changing him from being an extrovert to being an introvert. This act made Marcus more vulnerable since it would be hard for his mother and other care givers to notice what is going on in his life (Hurst et al. 9). Thus, cases of abuse towards Marcus would go unnoticed.
Question 5
Marcus’ uncle’s conduct and the boy’s cessation of crying after the uncle left indicated the involvement of abuse in the boy’s unusual behavior. The uncle’s smell of alcohol showed that he was intoxicated and abused Marcs as a result. Furthermore, he raises concerns when he leaves the educational facility without talking to the educators. This indicated that he was avoiding contact with the teachers due to the guilt of abusing Marcus. Moreover, Marcus’ stoppage of crying noted that his uncle’s presence upset him more. Although the uncle’s absence pacified his feelings, he still needed more time in isolation to calm down. This need for more time and space explains his alienation and aggression towards the other children.
Question 6
First, I would confirm from Marcus if he was abused. I would then report the issue to the head of the institution. Together, we would notify the relevant law enforcement agency of Marcus’ abuse. The Law enforcement agency would then put Marcus in protective custody as they carry out investigations to verify the allegations. If found guilty, the suspected abuser would be apprehended and arraigned in court. In the meantime, Marcus would be counseled by a licensed therapist and taken to a foster home. On the other hand, if the allegations are not substantial, Marcus would be counseled by a therapist but still taken to a foster home. For Marcus to return to his mother, she would be required to attend counseling sessions first to help her learn how to balance between her social life and fulfilling her obligations to her son.
Question 7
First, there is a strict institutional policy against sharing personal information with irrelevant people. This system helps to control the flow of sensitive information within the facility. Second, the files that contain written information about employees and the students are well protected in storage rooms. Furthermore, the files are stored in steel lockers to provide further security and ease the classification of the records from the most sensitive ones to the least sensitive ones. This helps with the institutions’ investigation on the extent of the information breach. Besides, access to those storage rooms is limited to the authorized personnel within the school administration. Third, the institution notifies all new employees of the school’s policy on information privacy and confidentiality. All these measures ensure that confidentiality is maintained within the facility.

Assessment activity 2
Question 1: Relevant information in an abuse case
Ronald should include information about:
-
The time and date when the abuse happened.
-
The place where the abuse happened.
-
The individuals who abused the child.
-
The witnesses that were present during the incident.
-
The tools that the abuser used to injure the child.
-
The picture showing scars, bruises or any other injuries that the child got as a result of the abuse.
-
Voice recording of the abused child’s account of the events that happened.
-
A medical report that proves the child was abused.
-
Picture of the injuries that resulted from the abuse after the child had received medical attention.
-
If it is a serial case, include all the other cases that are related to the abuse or the abuser.
Question 2:
Ronald has provided inadequate information required to give a holistic picture of the situation. He fails to provide evidence about the exact cause of the burn on Caleb’s back or a picture of Caleb’s back showing the injuries. Moreover, Ronald’s reporting is judgmental since he investigates Caleb’s mother for the injuries on Caleb’s back yet he has no evidence that could link Caleb’s mother to the injuries. Nevertheless, Ronald’s information cannot prove that Caleb’s mother was aware of the injuries that Caleb had on the back since she preferred to stay in the pubs rather than being with Caleb.
Question 3:
Ronald should not include this information in his report since they are insubstantial and biased. First, Ronald has no evidence that links Caleb’s mother to the blister and the bruise on Caleb’s back. Second, Ronald’s statement that declares Caleb’s mother as unfit to have a child makes Ronald seem biased. Furthermore, the statement is harsh. According to the codes of ethics that regulate Ronald’s career, he has an obligation to report such kind of cases since the requirements mandate him to prioritize the child’s interest, safety, and healthy learning environment.
Question 4:
Ronald should investigate further on Caleb’s abuse. After which, he should document the findings and forward the case to the institution’s management. It is the school’s management that will forward the matter to the state child protection authority. This guideline supports my response through the emphasis on following the right order of reporting a case of child abuse and the importance of having substantial evidence during documentation and reporting of an abuse case.
Question 5
I would contact the Australian Childhood Fondation to report on the cases of suspected child abuse. The organization offers relevant services that apply to my area. These services include organizing debates that focus on the current issues that face children, reviewing the yearly report on the cases of child abuse and neglect and developing special measures that discourage violence towards children. The organization is based in Hobart, Australia. The official communication phone number to the organization is +61 1300 381 581 while the organization’s website is www.childhood.org.au.

Contrarily, they need me to act in the interest of all the children and provide a safe environment for the child to learn. The situation requires me to consider the authenticity of the allegations and the safety of the child.
Question 7
I will do further investigations to verify if the accusations are true.
