Generally a formal strategy allows an organisation see opportunity that other cannot see and reap profits from them.

One cannot yield a superior performance by copying a ‘best practice’ since performance comes about when one do something unique that the rivals are not doing. Superior performance results only when an organisation is innovative and creative enough to outsmart the competitors and gain competitive advantages.

Employees are valuable is they assist the organisation increase the value that s offered to the customers. For employees to generate outstanding value, they should assist in increasing differentiation and decreasing costs in order to boost competitive advantage.

Whether it is a small company or a large organisation, the ability to act rationally and reason ethically is very important. Organisations should recognise that importance of meeting the needs of its stakeholders. An excellent business company is one that is very profitable and at the same time pays high dividends. Such organisation provides output of high quality, less costly and with higher values to the customers than its competitors. It offers enough pays and salaries to the employees and a business environment that is confortable for them. It provides all its suppliers with orders in advance in order for them to do proper planning and thereby pay them fair price for their efforts. Generally, an excellent organisation is expected to meet all the needs of its stakeholders in order to survive. With regard to international corporation, corporate legitimacy is not as important as meeting the stakeholders goals. While it is important to expressing behavioural patterns following a number of standards, rules and social values, increasing social legitimacy is not very beneficial for companies that are already on high level of market legitimacy such as international corporations operating in the developing countries. Companies that are expected to invest their time and resource on social legitimacy are those that have brand aspiring towards social value.

Recruitment and selection form a fundamental part of the core activities covered in human resource management; acquisition, development and reward. Recruitment and selection is termed as a planned rational activity (Aswathappa, 2013). Recruiting staff is considered costly exercise and is an important part of any business organisation and thus it pays to do it effectively. When business organisation selects the right individuals for a job, train them effectively and treat them well, these individuals will produce good results and will stay in the organisation for the long run. A company may tend to have technological advancement and appropriate physical resources, but lack of the right people will affect the organisation negatively and will struggle to achieve the set goals and objects (Aswathappa, 2013). Poor choices of employees at the recruitment stage are considered expensive. Therefore, an organisation should be sure of the chosen candidate’s technical competence. In addition to competence and appropriate experience, companies need to be sure that they choose a candidate they can rely on their goodwill, loyalty and commitment. Generally, recruitment and selection can play a fundamental role in developing an organisation’s performance and productivity. In a situation where specialised blend of skills is required, effective recruitment and selection is important as selected blend of skills assist the organisation in boosting competitive advantage. Also, such situation requires candidates who would be able to fit in the organisational culture.

One of the major challenges facing businesses today is social media. These challenges can be with regard to changes in process, activities, people and technology. Becoming asocial business impact the functions of a business. Integration of social media to organisation using centralised and distributed approach can bring problems to the organisation. In addition, social media can bring governance problems in social businesses. Good and bad information are posted in the internet and organisations are forced to actively listen and respond and this require a rule for engagement of dealing with multiple scenarios of responses. In order to transform the culture of the organisation to being a social business, upgrade of human resource is required. Organisations are thus forced to upgrade guidelines and train their employees. With regard to this situation, newspapers are faced with competition from social media. The industry is diversifying and is facing a huge competition. In addition to this, newspaper industry has succumbed from financial distress that paves way for the competitors.

The goals put forward in the company regarding the human resource management are the diversification of the human resource since it has recruited both experienced expatriates and local staff. The recruitment and selection of the company is also done by the CEO since it does not have head-office Human resource staff. Generally, the company has opted to source contractors from outside according to the work load available.

Question 2

If the complain of the management of the contractors is not addressed then, the company will have the problem of dealing with the bad publicity that will take place when the contractors decide to publicise the breaches. However, if the company choses to distance itself from the bad publicity, they will be faced with additional problems. The decision to distance the company from the bad publicity may damage the brand and image and may lead to decreased sales. In contrast, this action may have some merits. Doing nothing different will not change anything in the company’s operation and therefore, the resources needed for change process will be saved. Change is considered a hard task; therefore, the decision to distance the company from bad publicity will allow it to continue its operation without incurring any costs.

Seizing the use of contractors may off some benefits from the company. To start with the use of the contractors by the company has enabled the company save money. seizing the use of them will lead to the company using a lot of money in hiring employees, office space, equipment s to name a few. In addition, the action will reap off the benefit of flexibility in staffing projects that the company enjoys from the contractors. In addition, seizing of contractors may increase the exposure to lawsuits. However, seizing of the use of contractors may give the company more control over the employees and the management will be involved more on its processes and activities.

One way of solving the problem is to change the way the company manages the contractors. This can be done by making the line of communication shorter and more flexible in that there will be few people involved in the management of contractors. This makes decision-making concerning contractors easier and fast and occurrence of complications may reduce. This can be done through establishment of human resource personnel who can be given the responsibility of handling recruitment and selection activities. Implementation of human resource management in the operations of the company may give the company more control over the human resource the company utilises.

Changes in the management of contractors can be made through the hiring of human resource personnel. Making chances regarding the plant can revolve around setting rules and regulations on the type of employees operating in the plants. This can avoid the hiring of under aged children and avoid bad publicity altogether.

Question 3

The implementation of human resource management in the company will ensure issues related to the hiring of contractors are reduced. HRM will also assist in managing disputes. Human resource department can act as a consultant and mediator in case of employees complains. Moreover, HRM will assist the company create good relations to a great extent (Aswathappa, 2013).
