The aim of this essay is to discuss the advantages of nationalities choosing to study overseas. Studying overseas to many prospective students is not only inspiring but also provides multiple opportunities to work and gain various skills. Since education is a significant factor around the world, people seek opportunities to advance in their careers and fulfill their personal and professional goals. Of course, to many people studying and working abroad is attractive as it brings more benefits and opportunities than doing the same at home. However, they still have a number of challenges and difficulties to overcome. This essay finds that the choice of studying abroad has many advantages that outweigh the disadvantages.

Advantages of choosing to study overseas

People are driven by ambitions and desire to achieve more in life and maximize learning opportunities. Prospective students from around the world desire to study and work in developed countries such as United States, Europe, Australia, Canada and Japan. While many take their basic and secondary education in their home countries, a sizeable number would want to further their studies overseas (Keller, 2014). The reasons for their choice are numerous such as living, working and flexible study programmes offered by these countries. In addition, these universities not only offer incentives or stipends, environment and vision but also employment opportunities. For example, studying in US universities may offer great opportunities in the US private sector with attractive pay and good work environment. Also, these universities offer quality programs, interactive learning and ability to impart skills to new learners (Tillman, 2011).

On the contrary, students as soon as they step into their foreign countries experience a number of difficulties that they did not anticipate. These challenges include homesickness, unfamiliar culture and communication barriers. Besides missing their family and friends back home, many students experience loneliness in the presence of a new culture and lifestyle. Apart from culture change, the students have to overcome language barriers which present a lot of challenges within and without campus (Keller, 2014). For example, International Chinese students may feel homesick when studying the US universities because of new and different traditions, climate, food, sport and customs. They also find that they have to learn a new language with new pronunciation, meaning and slang. In many occasions, the students find that they are being discriminated by the local students for being different. Although these difficulties exist, prospective students have a way of overcoming them such as communicating on phone or email with family and friends back home. They can also get acclimatized with new food and customs by learning and appreciating. Moreover, language barriers can be reduced by learning to connect local languages, participating in local community events and speaking to locals regularly (Nasir, 2013).

Despite the obstacles and challenges in studying overseas, the benefits are numerous. Students are able to improve in their communication skills, technology and language in internationally recognized universities. Another reason is that students are able to work and live in difference hence they can upgrade their studies and gain more experience. In the current world, there are many employment opportunities and through outsourcing and globalization. By studying and working abroad, Tillman (2011) argues that one is able to gain access to business and career opportunities in economically stable countries and also develop trade strategies for business with their home countries. For example, many offshoring companies today require potential employees to have a working knowledge and mastery of English language. Conventionally, English is now widely used as a global language of which a good grasp of the language in communication will ease translation and understanding of technical terms (Nasir, 2013). This shows that there are many advantages of choosing to study overseas than the challenges and difficulties that come alongside.

This essay has shown that choosing to study overseas has many advantages than disadvantages. Although the disadvantage such as homesickness, cultural shocks and language barriers are weighty issues, prospective students can overcome through a number of initiatives. The essay has agreed that students can miss their friends and family as well as food and traditions but they will access more employment opportunities, improved communication skills and upgrade of their studies. Moreover, there are many ways of overcoming the challenges associated with studying abroad. The students can keep in touch through phones and adapt to the new environment in terms of customs and food. The can also learn the new language and engage in community events to understand the local language and customs. This essay agrees that there are advantages outweigh disadvantages when nationalities move overseas to study.
