  1. How does the culture of an organisation play an important part in the working lives of the employees?

Organisation culture reflects the core values of the organisation and has an impact on working lives of the employees. Organisations are defined by their culture and this culture has an overall effect on how employees carry themselves at the place of work and guides their interactions. Organisation culture brings about a sense belonging and loyalty towards the organisation as employees feel more attached to what they are used to and this improves performance. Additionally, organisation culture provides direction in the place of work and motivates an employee to perform to the best since everybody is aware of his/her tasks and duties[ CITATION Wil10 l 1033 ]

  1. How do objectives within strategic and operational plans differ from each other?

The objectives of a strategic plan are long-term in nature. The plans cover a period of five years or more and act as management guide in pursuit of stakeholders’ interests. On the other hand, operational plans deal with the day to day running of the organisation and are formulated and implemented by the low level of management.

  1. An organisation’s staffing profile must meet budgetary requirements, list what they will ouline

The profile outlines the remaining staff members and also states their experience. It indicates the composition of the staff as contractual, casual or permanent employees and highlights the number of vacant positions of full-time and part-time employees. In addition, it indicates the number of managerial staff as well as the administrative staff and shows the organisational structure.

  1. What is a human resource plan?

A human resource plan act as guideline to the management about managing human resources. The plan allows the management estimate future human resource requirements of the organisation and hence, strategise on how to fill those vacant as they arise. The plan allows the management ensure that only suitable employees are hired while ensuring that there are no labour shortages or surplus in pursuit of organisational goals[ CITATION Con10 l 1033 ].

  1. List the essential aims of human resource planning.

The aims of human resource planning are: analysing present labor to identify weaknesses/strengths, predicting future labour requirements, balancing future labour requirements with demand and supply with regard to organisation requirements, and integrating the future demand with organisational objectives.

  1. What are policies and procedures and why are they important in an organisation ?

b) Procedures act as guideline of actions while implementing a policy. Procedures show alternatives when in the course of implementing a policy and this prevents workers from making unnecessary errors.

7. There are several benefits gained from establishing effective workplace relationships, they are listed below. Please explain each one.

a) Fast Learning refers to the instance where a new employee gets oriented quickly to the workplace environment and understands how tasks are performed within a short duration of time

b) Workload Distribution
refers to equal distribution of tasks to minimise instances of employee overload or idleness.

c) Building Bonds
refers to integrating the available workforce to increase cohesiveness and team spirit through social interactions so as increase productivity

d) Healthy Competition is the internal competition among employees to outdo each other in performance of tasks. Organisations encourage healthy competition in the work environment to increase the output per employee.

e) Exploring Creativity
is seeking alternative means of performing a task, or solving a problem within the working environment away from the norm

f) Job Satisfaction
refers to the content that an employee gains from the workplace environment. That good feeling for a job well done

g) Increased Speed of Work. As an employee gets more and more used to the work environment, he/she gets to understand the routine better and does not use a lot of physical and mental energy to perform a task. This leads to increased speed of work

h) Team Member Responsibilities
refer to the specific task that every member of the team is assigned in order to achieve the overall objective of the team

8. Why is working in a team so effective and what the characteristics of an effective team?

Working in team is effective because of teamwork spirit that boosts synergies within the team. Effective teams are characterised by having a common purpose in that a team is created for a certain goal. Additionally, team members actively participate in all activities of the team. Decisions are made after a thorough brainstorming and all members agree upon decisions. In effective teams, ideas are exchanged freely and there is communication is open

9. What are the consequences of NOT working as a team?

It takes a long time to achieve the overall goal. Lack of different ideas may lead to poor results as there are no alternative views and lack of synergy may result to boredom.

10. What is effective communication? Please list the three main types of communication skills

Communication is said to be effective when the intended information reaches the right recipient and the intended action is taken. The main types of communication skills are: interpersonal skills, business communication skills and written communication skills

11. Please explain in detail what LACE stands for?

Listen, Acknowledge, C heck, Explore where in communication you listen with total concentration, you acknowledge the speaker through various non-verbal signs such as nods, and then you check whether you have understood the message by recounting it. Finally you explore the message to ensure that you have absorbed it

12. What are some barriers to good communication?

They include language barrier, irrelevant gestures, noise, use of technical jargon, lack of interest on the subject and disabilities such as partial or total deafness

13. Name the legislations which underpin workplace and organisation policies and some procedures.

14. What is the purpose of workplace policies and procedures in an organisation?

Workplace policies guide the employees on the best means of achieving the overall organisational vision as a means of realising the overall goal while the procedures guides employees on alternative ways of implementing businesses’ policy
