This book provides a definition of ebusiness and its use of information and communication technology in support of all business activities. It goes on to explain that electronic business is focused on the use of information systems and communication tools to connect the organization with other external stakeholders in the business including the suppliers, financial institutions, federal authorities and the customers of the business. It describes ebusiness infrastructure as the hardware, software, communication networks, human capital, and support services that are used in electronic commerce to facilitate business processes. These include computers, servers, routers, satellites, optical communications, system and application software, human capital such as computer programmers and support services such as website development, electronic payment systems and certification services.

This book section describes the methods involve the production of goods and services including the process of procurement, automated stock ordering, electronic payment processing, production control and management of electronic links to suppliers. It states that customer focused e-business processes in an organization include online and digital customer marketing through the company’s social media networks, electronic selling of products and services through an online electronic shopping processes, customer management and support through the use of digital call centers and email support and the processing of customer orders and payments. It also gives a substancial explanation to the internally focused processes that ebusiness support including the management of automated employee services such as electronic time cards, electronic training of employees through the use of computer related hardware, information sharing by use of centralized and dedicated internal server networks, internal communications through video conferencing and online staff recruitment processes.

This report indicates that the United Kingdom had the biggest global ecommerce market in 2010 measured by the expenditure per capita. The article also mentions the Czech Republic as a country in Europe where ecommerce contributes the biggest share of revenue contributions in enterprises around the country. Studies conducted in the report reveals that a quarter of the United Kingdom’s gross domestic product is obtained through online business and ecommerce. This is an important report in that it assists in shedding some light to the global market share and trends of ecommerce business in the European region.

In the Asian region, the e-commerce presence in china grows every year with a total of over 380 million internet users in a 2007 survey. The improved consumer confidence in the ecommerce system in china has resulted in an online shopping market value of over $30 billion in 2007. Since china is the regional economic leader in that area, this journal seeks to explain the importance of managing information in the Chinese ecommerce business model. With china contributing over thirty percent of the world’s ecommerce transactions, this journal also helps understand the developing trends of the use of ecommerce for business in china and the linkages between Chinese ecommerce and that of the rest of the world.

This journal explains the growth of Russian economic development and the development of its subsequent ecommerce business. This journal projects that the value of the ecommerce business in Russia will grow to a staggering $30billion by the year 2015. It also states that this amount will contribute a little over five percent in total domestic revenue for Russia. The journal also postulates that the value of ecommerce in Russia will exceed the $20 billion value by the year 2020. This journal is, therefore, paramount in postulating the trends and unique insights about customer confidence, language barriers and the knowledge of online payments in order to penetrate not just the Russian market, but other countries in the BRIC and Eastern Europe as well.

Where trends in ecommerce in the South America region is concerned, an analysis of the regional hub Brazil reveals that a growing middle class in the Latin America region has fostered the developemtn of the ecommerce retail business. In 2011, $11 billion was generated just from online sales through ecommerce. In total, a record breaking 32 million online consumers bought an item through the web during the 2011 period with over nine million new consumers within a year. A study done by information systems consultant E-bit and supported by the Brazilian chamber of electronic commerce revealed the trends in the development of retail ecommerce in Brazil. Since Brazil represents the largest ecommerce market in Latin America, its growth in the retail ecommerce business will still be affected by global events such as the slowdown in the economic growth of china and the economic downturn that was experienced in Europe and America. Economists, however, expect that the Brazilian government’s move to reduce the basic interest rates and increase other government incentives will go a long way in balancing out the negative effects that these global conditions bring. The government of Brazil according to this journal is also looking at increasing the access and availability of cheap broadband internet access to increase the literacy of the internet and number of people who can afford and access the internet and online services. Since more than 40 percent of the Brazilian internet population bought at least a single item online in 2011, it is estimated that increasing these internet users from 196 million people would increase the revenue boost in ecommerce.
