Introduction

Many parents wish for their children to grow up exhibiting brilliant abilities more so in school. It is not expected of children to engage in play more than studies. However, in many institutions, there is a familiar saying: “all work without play makes Jack a dull boy”. According to many teachers, and especially those in preschool, playing plays an integral part in ensuring that children maintain some sot of balance amid the educational tasks presented to them.

It should be noted that early learning does not actually take place in most institutions until after preschool. Mostly, playing is incorporated into the curriculum of preschool children to stimulate their minds into accepting to be educated. Therefore, it is important for one as a parent to apply playing as a technique to get children to learn their counting and A, B, C’s.

Moreover, the best way to get a child to do something like eating or just an ordinary chore is by making that particular chore look or seem very easy. If one wishes a child to learn arithmetic, perhaps they should try telling them to count butterflies! (“Joyful Education,” 2011) If playing has been incorporated into most schools and has even been made a major activity, then it is only because the teachers feel that this will impact positively on the children’s eagerness to be at school and in the process, they will learn a great deal of subjects just through playful engagements.

Conclusion

It has been said time and again, that too much of something is poisonous. Implying that play is good for children’s mental as well as physical growth should not be taken to mean that playing should be the order of the day in preschool. Rather, it should only serve as a catalyst for better results from children. Parents should therefore not worry that playing will make their children be disadvantaged when it comes to education.
