Creative Writing
Creative writing as an art centres on specific themes influenced by the interest of the writer. According to Harper, it is an outcome of the imaginations of the writer influenced by their history and culture (21). Harper continues to define it by mentioning the contribution of individual knowledge to the skill (21). As such, it remains individualistic and novel as described in (Shah et al. 1088). It is from its individualised nature that I find my creativity focused on creating documentaries and films themed on ongoing experiences in the society.
My work voices the dramas in everyday life, especially true-life crime as imperative characteristics engrained in the community. As evident from my past projects including (Riding Shotgun 2012, and Enemy Within 2016) available at http://www.imdb.com/name/nm4248638/, I continually focus on crime stories as my main theme. Imperative is my abilities to apply different ideas in presenting crime, especially by changing the artistic language in each film.
Shah et al. describes proper creative writing as that which presents the heuristic side of the writer (1088). In a self-reflective view, I build my open-mindedness to the events captured in the news, newspapers and other works of crime. It builds on the existing information of events occurring on a global scale and employs creativity to enhance the viewers understanding of this information. In my view, it reflects a progressive pattern in the society that thrives in crime generation to generations. As a writer with a passion in country music, I am able to use the musical language in the films, especially in setting a convincing atmosphere for the audience. Here, the application of music contributes to the understanding of the themes in the film by capturing the emotions and identity of the audience to those presented in the film. The incorporation of symbolism and musical notes enhance the societal self-awareness as discussed by (Gonçalves et al. 1).
In the practice of my craft, particularly on creating documentaries, I exploit the technology of digital storytelling. Based on Alexandra, the medium in digital stories is the narrative structured to generate a critical reflection and self-expression about issues faced by the people (101). In particular, the application of the narrative in a postmodern setting of the films points to my ability to communicate effectively the existing situations on crime. Moreover, the mediums aid my abilities as writer to speak creatively of these crimes and bridge the gaps in the society limiting the active reaching to an end of these crimes.
The central component of my work is the audience whom I hope to impact positively and influence their growth. Gonçalves et al. concludes that creatively is a tool that increases literacy and builds positive relation among societies (9). Therefore, it is my objective to see a more literate society through my creative works in both music and film making. In reference to Alexandra, I purpose to enhance the self-representation of the audience and allow them to make informed meaning of their existence (109). In meaning, I believe in enhancing their understanding of their persona, behaviour and culture and how it affects their environments.
