The Mental and Physical Health Dimensions

Psychological distress and well-being are presumed to be different in their capacity of mental and physical health. However, the two concepts are correlated to each other in the way they influence an individual physically and mentally. Distress is derived from depression and life satisfaction is an ingredient of well-being. An individual is unlikely to be fulfilled with life and depressed, but perhaps be contented and anxious. Physical health highlights the capacity to lead a quality life that would allow a person to undertake the daily activities devoid of any physical stress or fatigue (Muir-Cochrane, Barkway and Nizette, 2014). The ability that recognizes our habits as a significant factor in adopting healthful behaviors whereas avoiding damaging habits is the key to optimal physical living. Mental health encompasses the social, psychological and emotional wellness. It influences how an individual act, feels and thinks as they approach life. Mental wellbeing also has the ability to dictate how one relates to other persons, make choices and handle stress. The paper seeks to discuss how Mental and physical health dimensions affected the life of Georgia.

A sound understanding of mental health and mental illness is critical not only for the case of Georgia but provides a platform for understanding clinical signs in the practice of mental health and mental illness so that the practice can be based on a comprehensive conceptualization and understanding of Georgia processes of recovery and what his clinical signs mean for the general practice. For instance, this case presents Georgia who manifested changes in emotion and motivation. There are elements of anxiety, depression, irritability, blunted, suspiciousness, inappropriate emotion and reduced energy. From the one hand, Georgia finds it difficult expressing himself or responding to questions. Connecting these signs to the importance of understanding mental health and mental illness, practicing health personnel will be able to recognize that patients can be in a situation where they cannot remain focused on a given task, instance of impulsive behavior and instances of excessive activity or inability to have a still sit. Exercise is an effective natural treatment for anxiety because it relieves stress and tension, enhances wellbeing by the release of endorphins and boosts the mental and physical energy. Something that makes an individual to move can help in a greater way when they focus on it than just zoning out (Ciccomascolo and Sullivan 2013). When doing the exercise, Georgia needs to try to differentiate the rhythm of their breathing, the sensation of their feet hitting the ground and the feeling generated by the wind upon their skin. This technique of focusing on the body as one a person executes an exercise helps adjust the physical condition and intercepts any kind of worries that might be ringing in their minds.

Based on these researches and the case regarding Georgia the question that lingers is the implication of Georgia case in the practice. To begin with, the case present the need to devise clear communication skills in order to engage with Georgia or any other patient with similar clinical signs. Studies agree that communication skills such as listening in mental health nursing act as the best therapeutic interventions (Hellsten, 2014; Bardwell and Taylor, 2013). Secondly, the case regarding Georgia brings an understanding that there could be a number of clinical signs and symptoms in the scenario of mental health and mental illness however, there is need for practitioners to understand significant signs or symptoms so that intervention strategies can be supported by evidence based researches.
One manifestation in this case is that continuous stress accumulates a gaping internal distress. School homework, health concerns, and relationship issues can hinder concentration even though several people are unable to identify this until they become completely deluged. Georgia has become mentally inundated by displaying lack of attention and concentration. The sign of rereading almost everything shows a lack of focus and hence work cannot be executed in time thus even causing more stress (Edward et al., 2014). The mental condition of a parent might influence how the child copes with the situation depending on the environmental, psychological and biological exposure the child faces. Like in Georgia’s mother, it seems that the parent symptoms have poisoned the act of positive parenting. The anxiety of her mother has posed emotional, social and behavioral problems to her since Georgia might have experienced an unpredictable and inconsistent family environment.

Alcohol taking will alter Georgia’s brain chemistry since our brains are dependent on a delicate balance of processes and chemicals. Being a depressant can alter that balance; hence affect her feelings, actions, and thoughts. Nevertheless, alcohol can also increase the stress and anxiety levels rather than reducing it. Having a sip once may seem comfortable but later it would cause anxiety, depression and make it difficult to handle stress (Doyle and Nowinski 2012). She would even start to withdraw from her friends and family, developing a cycle of the people with the similar addiction. The environment also plays a pivotal role in the focus of a person; if the surrounding has distractions such as humming light, loud music, heater vents that rattle all the time or any kind of visual disruptions or the environment is cold or hot. The lighting, chair, desk or chairs used by an individual can influence the focus of a person.

Despite the challenges surrounding Georgia’s mental and physical health, certain measures can be undertaken to reduce the effects. Good sleep is very important since it is one of the fundamental components of an effective brain functioning. A person needs to set himself or herself and adapt to the right kind of surrounding like a library, coffee shop or an organized backyard at home. Taking a break during midday or just relaxing without doing anything can help calm a person since it will disrupt patterns that build stress and aid in concentration recovery. The ability to focus on one’s breathing technique is very crucial, particularly when dealing with a demanding project or assignment. Feed your brain enough oxygen by ensuring complete and steady breathing regularly to improve the mental health. Lastly, make it a habit of exercising regularly; a session of exercise will enhance cognitive performance and mental concentration for any obligation an individual performs. Aerobic exercise enhances functioning of the brain areas that play attention roles. A short session of running places accelerates circulation and improves brain performance. One can also exploit sports that engage eye contact on the ball like tennis to enhance the focus (Donnelly et al 2001).

Georgia does not have to dedicate several hours in running miles, sweat buckets or at the gym to realize the results for healthy good being. The benefits can be attained by an average thirty minutes daily routine in five days a week. Even if fifteen to thirty minutes looks intimidating, then one can start at 10 minutes because a little commitment is better than doing none. A cumulative effort applied daily even if it is small will help build energy every day for the person to move to another level. The most important step is consistency to make the routine become a habit and the benefits will start coming.

Everything is in the mind, taking the first step is significant for Georgia to realize these goals. However, exercise has barriers that are real especially when a person is struggling with mental health. Firstly, exhaustion when one is tired and it seems working out could deteriorate it. Studies demonstrate that daily exercise is able to dramatically mitigate fatigue and boost an individual’s energy level. In a case of fatigue, one need to take a five-minute walk, there is even a higher possibility of going beyond the five minutes. When one feels unmotivated like Georgia, it is time to change the way of thinking about the body. No matter the circumstances, tasks, fitness level and goals of getting fit, there is a need to find people with the same drive to motivate your goals and take an initiative. Taking classes with distinct people of varied fitness levels will help Georgia in accomplishing her body confidence and fitness. Thirdly, when she feels overwhelmed adding another task will seem very overwhelming. Exercising will look undoable but if we think physical activity as a priority then one can always find a minor time within a busy schedule to perform the program (Donnelly et al 2001). Feeling hopeless, program your mind and commence at zero and the exercise will help her to get a better shape. If she has no experience, Georgia can begin slowly with low impact mobility for a few minutes daily.

Many people find it hard to motivate themselves, to participate in exercise at the appropriate times. When we exhibit feelings of depression, anxiety or possess emotional or mental problems, it can be critically difficult to exercise. Georgia also needs to focus on an activity that she enjoys. Activities that gets her moving around like window-shopping laps, cycling or Frisbee with a friend. If she has never attempted exercising, then there is a need to explore different ideas. For mood disorders, she can embrace gardening as a great way to start moving and getting active and ignite a sense of accomplishment and purpose. Making exercising a social program through exercising in the company of a friend or family member, this will make the activity more enjoyable and fun and can inspire one to maintain a workout plan and feel great than doing the routine alone. Actually exercising with someone else makes the practice as vital as the companionship. In addition, there is need to find comfort by choosing a setting with calming effect or by wearing a comfortable attire. This can be a favorite park within the city, scenic path or a calm corner at home. Reward your efforts; this will increase the motivation to pledge oneself an extra incentive for exercising. The reward can be in form of a television episode series, playing a video game or hot bath.

In conclusion, the mental and physical health of an individual highly depends on the mentality and physical approach one takes to help maintain the good well-being. An effective routine exercise program, right environment, enough sleep and good breathing are very vital in realizing any result that aims to achieve an excellent healthy welfare. Therefore, Georgia needs to change their perceptions of changing how she lives to help attain a better wellbeing.
