InterSoft Technologies Report

InterSoft Technologies is a large webhosting company founded in 1997 in Australia. Since inception the company has grown to a large enterprise serving a customer base of 175,000 customers comprising of private and business across Australia, New Zealand and China. InterSoft has employed more than 160 employees to serve their customers across the markets they operate. The company has come up with a sustainability strategy to drive their development agenda.

Shortfall in existing policy and New Sustainability Policy

After introduction of sustainability in 2012, the organization developed a CSR unit with focus of developing environmental sustainability projects which included construction of energy-efficient data center, visualization, and day care facilities for their employees’ children, flexible operating hours for their employees and optimizing existing technologies for efficient energy utilization and minimizing CO2 emissions.

There are key legislative and regulatory requirements like EP regulation (2000) which is concerned with waste management, Environmental conservation and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, Energy and Greenhouse Laws and Occupational Health and Safety laws. Before the company introduced flexible working patterns, alternative working schemes like telework and starting of the day care center, the employees were faced by challenge of balancing work with their personal and family life. Also there is a policy change where the company has not adopted a certification in efficiency energy utilization to guide in coming up with structures to pursue such goals. Inter Soft Technologies is considering to acquire a certification in environmental management systems. The company has started several initiatives aimed at reducing and controlling environmental pollution, which requires backing of suitable policies at the organization level to ensure the projects started are sustained throughout the project life hence reduce environmental pollution. There are no proper policies to deal with waste management which is a major challenge in the IT industry. Policy to regulate constant renewal of hardware is necessary to limit the level of impact these disposed and redundant pieces of hardware have on the environment.

There is need to review the existing company policy on environmental sustainability so as to adopt new policy which is in tandem with the current environmental and waste management laws. Since InterSotf Technologies has implemented sustainability programs, the implementation of new policies should be done immediately which will guarantee the success of the programs. The company it has achieved to implement the visualization project and building a new data center consequently reducing emissions of CO2 and hazardous hardware materials to the environment.

The implementation of new policies which are in line with environmental laws and regulation will improve the performance of InterSoft Technologies products and services in the market since the services will be environmental friendly and energy efficient. Also adoption of new initiatives will save the company resources in terms of fines by the regulatory bodies involved with environmental conservation. The new policies will ensure that employees are protected and motivated to perform better in their roles in a clean environment.

Key stakeholders in the new policy development and implementation will be government agencies which are involved in environmental conservation, suppliers of new hardware, local community where the company operates, customers which the company serves across all markets and all the employees.

In conclusion, InterSoft Technologies has considerably adopted initiatives aimed at developing sustainability and achieved key milestones in the development journey. More energy needs to be employed in developing new policies especially to ensure the environment is protected and engage with their stakeholders to make sure the initiatives achieve the intended results.
