  1. There are many benefits that a dashboard can bring. These include the following;

  1. The dashboard will help Uber drive fact based and real-time decision making. This is because it will offer clear, colorful graphic user interfaces which will help users understand and evaluate complex data thus enabling real-time decision making.

  2. The dashboard will make organizational data more valuable by enabling organization members gain insight which will help them perform their jobs better. It will help in highlighting the Uber brand while delivering organizational data to customers with ease.

  3. The dashboard will help to consolidate data and provide real-time data analytics one a single screen thus saving on time and frustrations of looking for the data from multiple screens (Kaushik, 2016).

  4. The dashboard is able to provide an objective view of the organizational performance by providing an easy to understand and objective view of the current performance and hence serve as a foundation for further dialogue.

  5. The dashboard will give the big picture of every important metric that the user needs in making informed decisions which include real-time metrics as well as key performance indicators from multiple data sources, departments and markets.

  6. The dashboard is useful in revealing problem areas thus helping stakeholders handle problems proactively. It makes workers using the dashboards feel empowered and make better decisions while handling difficult problems at the source as they arise (Wayne, 2010).

  1. The data to be included in a dashboard should depend on the audience the dashboard targets. Some of the data to be included in a dashboard should include the following;

i)the key success indicators including how effective the organization is in achieving its mission, the organization’s financial health, how effectively resources are being used, impact of organizational activities on the society, the organization’s trajectory and the benefits the company is providing to the community (Noetix Corporation, 2004). This will include such data as organizational financial performance, sales data, the number of rides offered by the company, CSR activities, data on financial performance trends etc.

ii) Data on financial indicators –this should include important trends on the company’s financial statements, changes in assets and liabilities, the various costs versus revenues generated by the company, cash flows generated, comparison of budget and actual revenue, various fund balances.

iii) Tools for staff- These could include set goals and actual performance.

The above data is collected from both internal and external sources. It may be extracted from the company’s financial statements and other important documents that explain the company’s mission and vision.

  1. The potential challenge in implementing dashboards ;

There are many challenges in implementing dashboards after their development. These challenges include the quality of data collected, the availability of data, the ability to select the correct data, ability of the dashboards to satisfy the end user, ability to choose the collect visualization among others. These challenges are briefly explained below;

  1. Lack of clear and focused vision on the types of metrics such as key performance indicators that are viewed important to be displayed on the organizational dashboard makes users to ultimately not find the dashboard practically useful.

  2. Implementation is also challenged by problems associated with data access, transformation, aggregation and delivery from transactional databases and unstructured sources leading to inaccurate and incomplete dashboard metrics (Kitchen, 2016). This also includes challenges associated with data collection and management.

  3. Challenges associated with designing the visual component including monitoring the overall performance of metrics and displaying them in an efficient and accurate manner.

  4. Challenges associated with the development of post deployment plans

  1. Audience for the dashboard include all organizational stakeholders including the management, shareholders, customers, suppliers and investors among other stakeholders. For the management, the dashboard is useful in helping the board engage in informed governance by helping them focus on key trends and organizational strategic goals (idashboard.com, 2016). For staff, the dashboard would be useful in tracking progress in reaching their goals. Other components of the dashboard such as financial reports trends are helpful to other stakeholders such as investors in helping them make informed decisions.

  2. In implementing the dashboard, a number of steps are involved. These includes

  1. The planning stage is where the project boundaries are set. In this stage, team members’ roles, project objectives, project scope, timeline and budget as well as strategic KPIs are determined.

  2. The data gathering stage is where the dashboard data is gathered. This may involve stakeholders’ interviews, setting expectations, exploring functionality, defining data types and building prototypes (Ballou etal, 2016).

  3. The design stage involves user interface, site usability, confirmation of data sources, and definition of queries and determination of drill paths.

  4. The building and validation stage involves dashboard construction and testing. This involves coding art and design, third party integration as well as security testing.

  5. The installation and testing stage is the deployment stage and would involve security and network integration. The maintenance stage involves ongoing maintenance of the dashboard and would involve such things as knowledge transfer and maintenance planning.

Implementing the dashboard involves a number of stakeholders known as dashboard development team which includes the representation of all stakeholders as well as IT professionals involved in development of the dashboard. The process also involves a number of costs including hardware and software related costs, professional services related costs as well as recurring costs such as data warehouse administration costs and data refresh costs.

  1. Sample dashboard from another organization

The following is a sample dashboard from the museum of arts. The dashboard provides a brief snapshot of the activities the business is involved in (Lavinsky, 2016).
