Title : ICT in developing context(s)

Research paradigm and philosophy (ontology-epistemology and methodology)

The main classification of research paradigms are: ontological, epistemological and methodological. In this study field research was carried out to Field research, conducted in natural settings in order to collect substantial situational information

Information system addressed

The information system addressed is of Mpesa a mobile banking scheme in Kenya, on science and technology studies ideas and specifically cooper and law distal and proximal perspectives, to argue that we need to better attend to the multiplicity of practices which take place within development arena and this helps better consider the processes by which context represented.

Concepts used in the study

The concepts used in the study are context, developing countries, information systems and representation.

The term developing countries is used in the research to define the countries which are less developed. Information and communication skill play a major role in providing exclusive occasions for increasing countries to slandering the gap with the industrialized countries.

Information systems which is referred to as a process of out contextualization and points out that a process of context displacement could potentially continue indefinitely as another context is identified which cam also include prior context.

Theories used

Different theories represent context in new ways which seek to supplement or displace prior understanding leading to a deepening or broadening of understanding.

The theories used are theories of organizational change which are argued to be a historical, aprocessual, and a contextual in character.

Outcome of the study

The theoretical understanding of context needs rethinking in the light of development in the anthropology of development and social studies. Development in the theorization of context can be viewed as an increasing attention and sophistication in the representation of context. The ideas of unitary logic of development and thus of content and purposes that both content and context are more fruitfully understood as multiple and provisional orderings which are at best partially connected.

Comments on the findings

The social and culture are always actively reworked in development to provide representations of context. The representations provide partial connections and shape the content of IS development projects. Context is partially ordered requires a reflexive understanding of the process of development.

There is no unitary position or representation available that will provide a definitive understanding of context. Close ethnographic or detailed engagement is necessary to retrieve proximal accounts but if attention is not taken on they are adapted used and interpreted in the implementation of projects.
