For instance the justice reinvestment approach was implemented in Texas in the 2008-2009 financial years. The program was mainly designed to enhanced reinvestment and quality savings in the high needs of the community. An amount of $241 million that would have been directed to the construction of new prisons and the improvement of parole and probation services was diverted to support programs for 2000 families with low income. According to data released two years after the implementation of the justice reinvestment strategy, the prison population in Texas stopped increasing for the first time in decades. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice also noted that the prison population will further decrease even in the present year. The reduction of the number of imprisonment rates in Texas is as encouraging factor that there are positive results from the adoption of this particular strategy.

The first step entails the identification of the areas where most young offenders come from, and then a calculation is made of how much money is spent on these areas in terms of detention (

The above presentation has presented the justice reinvestment approach as an effective strategy of dealing with the problem of overrepresentation of indigenous youths in juvenile detention.

It is also essential to take note of the fact that the approach looks at a new way of perceiving the policy for juvenile justice, whereby the diverting of funds to community based initiatives is guided by principles of human rights and imprisonment is viewed as the last resort for resolving the overrepresentation of indigenous youths in juvenile detention. In summary it can be stated that through adoption of the justice reinvestment policy approach, we can effectively tackle the problem of overrepresentation of indigenous youths in juvenile detentions. This is due to the fact that a strategy that aims at empowering people in society as opposed to locking them up, is definitely a positive step toward crime reduction.
