I am Fatemah Alsaeed pursuing a degree in bachelor of biomedical services in Deakin Univerity. After completing my studies, I would like to join a reputable institution, which will allow me to improve by giving new experiences and putting what I have learned into practice. My career goals include joining a team of professionals sharing the same passion I have in biomedical services. The organization should offer sufficient room for growth and enable me to fully utilize my skills, experience and competency. The organization should have an open culture and offer wide exposure to latest trends and technologies.

My locality has various institutions and job opportunities that suit my career aspirations. Living in Melbourne, Australia comes with many advantages and career opportunities that. After completing my studies in Biomedical Science, I would like to work in leading hospitals in Melbourne particularly Sandringham Hospital. I aspire to become a biomedical scientist and work in a laboratory of such an institution.

Market segment is mainly composed of local community, that is, expectant mothers, the aged, diabetic, and general public in case of general medical care.

Sandringham hospital is a reputable institution in the health sector. This community hospital caters for the health care needs of the residents. The hospital is a leader in provision of women and children’s health care. It has a fully equipped maternity to ensure the provision of quality services to women during delivery. Although the hospital stands out and is majorly involved in women and children’s health, it has other departments that cater for other medical needs and services. The emergency department, general medical unit, and the outpatient clinic to mention but a few are some of the services provided to the residents. All medical services are available to all types of patient needs. Age care services, HITH, speech pathology, occupational therapy, dieticians and social work are among the extra services offered to the hospital’s patients. Quality health has proved to be the pillar of many societies worldwide (Abbing, 2005).

To understand the scope of activities offered in Sandringham hospital, I had an opportunity to interview the Chief Operations Officer of the hospital. The interview was interesting, as I had an array opportunity to appreciate the dynamics of operations of such an institution. The issue of good communication skills proved inevitable. For any hospital to achieve long lasting success, good communication skills should be enforced. According to the operating officer, good communication skills were emphasized in the culture and regulations of the hospital because its activities mainly deal with life and death situations. Poor communication skills among the staff can automatically lead to fatalities.

Good communication skills in the workplace constitute of proper understanding of an individual’s role, co-ordination and reciprocation of efforts (Hull, 1997). Systems should be put in place to ensure the staffs understand what is expected of them and how to convey information among them. For instance, the management should ensure the staffs are emotionally stable to avoid personal issues from affecting the quality of work. According to Goodwin (2001), duties and functions should be delegated fairly and clearly to avoid overlapping of efforts. The interview also made me realize that oral means of communication are equally important just as written means. Different signs should be placed in the vicinity where people can easily access and read them such as fire exit signs. The interview emphasized on improving efficiency in communication among the staff and management.
