Carmen Saari: Discussion 8 Global Society

According to Carmen Saari, the different aspects of a global society have influenced one another through many ways. First, the world is flat because of the technological advances that have closed gaps from one place to another. As a result, people can access services from one place when they do not have them where they live. Carmen states that she can take a two-hour-one-way trip to access mental health services for her two autistic children. She further divulges that it is due to the advances in technology and other inventions that have enabled the world to get to greater heights in helping each person.

I think that Carmen does not effectively discuss the various disciplinary approaches to studying society and individuals. For example, Carmen laments that she struggles to make the connection between what she learns in class on the books and the kind of assignments that she carries out. She believes that either the text or assignments must be altered so that they can match to make her not struggle to find their linkage (Ennis-Cole et al., 2016).

I believe that Carmen should implement what she has learned by relating it to her experience and life situation as it is evident that she has benefited from the course. For instance, she says that she should create awareness on autism around the world and not complain about the shortage of mental health professionals. Similarly, I believe that I should not complain about situations, but, attempt to find solutions in my everyday life with respect to my work and social life. The learning process is an essential step towards attaining my objective. As proposed by Singer (nd), education should bring social change.
