Proposal for the Development of Sneaker-cum Slippers Footwear

Shoes and slippers are some of the most treasured footwear. Consumers all over the globe put a lot of value on shoes and slippers, and the same applies to Australia. According to ABC (2008), Aussies purchase an average of 3.5 sneakers every year. The number of sleepers bought by Australians per year is even higher than that of shoes. This implies that there is a huge business opportunity in the shoe and slippers market. However, holding a large number of sneakers and slippers in the house has become a problem for most people some of who do not even has somewhere to keep the large number of sneakers and sandals they have. Therefore, to address this problem, I have come up with a business idea of developing sneaker-cum-slippers.

The concept of sneaker-cum-slippers is very simple. Under this concept, sneakers will be made that are convertible to slippers. All that people interest in shoes and slippers will do is to buy a pair of shoes that the person can convert into slippers whenever the person needs sleepers. Consequently, whenever a person needs to wear a sneaker, all that the person will do under this concept is to reconvert the slippers back into shoes. The sneaker-cum-slippers will be designed in such a manner that it would not be easy for one to notice that the final product has been converted either from shoes to slippers and vice versa. This is important for purposes of ensuring that when a person wants to wear the product as a shoe, it does not reveal the features of slippers and vice versa. Because the tastes and preferences of consumers are not uniform, the sneaker-cum-slippers products will come in a variety of colors and designs as this would ensure that the needs of every customer are satisfied. At the same time, the product will be designed for men, women, and children with no one left out.

The concept will have many advantages to the Australian people. The first main advantage of this concept is that it is practical, feasible and conceivable. This is because shoes and slippers are a necessity for Australians. ABC (2008) study found that Australians buy an average of 3.5 shoes per year and the same applies to slippers. Considering that Australia has a population in the excess of 20 million people, this means that in a year, about 70 million shoes are bought by Australians and the same holds for slippers. This means a huge demand for shoes and sandals in the country.

The concept is also advantageous and feasible considering that most Australians are disgusted with possessing a large number of shoes and slippers with no even enough space to keep them. Most Australian households keep piles of shoes and slippers with each household having an average of 20 shoes and 20 slippers (ABC, 2008). Because the space for keeping this footwear is limited, the only best way to address this problem that most Australian people face is to design a sneaker-cum-slippers as this would significantly help reduce the number of footwear in each household, thereby relieving the spaces that Aussies have been using to keep large piles of shoes and slippers for other important things. This is because now Australians will only be buying shoes that are convertible to slippers, meaning no separate slippers will be bought anymore.

The concept is also advantageous to the environment. It has been found that footwear forms a significant portion of waste that ends up in Australian landfills. This is because Aussies dispose of a lot of used sneakers and slippers that they no longer need as waste that ends up in the landfills that pollute the environment. Currently, Australia is grappling with the problem of waste disposal and emissions. Therefore, the concept of developing a sneaker-cum-slippers will be good for the environment as it would reduce the quantity of footwear that ends up in the landfills, thus minimizing pollution.

In conclusion, although the business concept would be valued by all stakeholders and the customers in the market, this concept might encounter certain challenges that will have to be addressed. The main challenge associated with this concept is that people might take the time to embrace the concept because it is known in the market. This implies that issues to do with skepticism will have to be dealt with to ensure that the product is embraced by the entire Australian footwear consumers.
