Question one

Following the analysis of the performance and plans of Westward Hilton, there are advantages that are very sustainable. These are the values that can be passed from one generation to the other. The values that are developed have a crucial role that they play. This are values such as honesty, trust, integrity, respect and the fair arrival at the decisions that are made. This is an attribute that can be sustained and that works for the better of the whole body (Urrabazo, 2006). The company also focuses on the establishment of priorities and the concentration on the doing of things and activities based on their levels of importance. This makes the goals and objectives of the company to be achieved in a faster and a more efficient manner which is to the better of the company. There is also the creation of focus by all the stakeholders of dignity. This is where all and sundry is valued equally and highly (Porter, 2008). This is for the good of the company as it results to the development of lasting relationships with the people who revolve around the operations and the undertakings of the company. This is also a step in the creation of a balance between the employees, the customers and the owners of the business.

Question two

The hotel manager acts as the determinant of the success or the failure of culture of a given hotel industry (Miller etal. P2015). This is because he is the figure head that people and other junior and subordinate look up to. This is if they are in need of direction on the undertaking of a given task. The role that is portrayed by the manager is what is followed by the subordinates. If he possesses a culture with a high degree of integrity, then this is passed to all the people who are under his supervision. The same case applies if he as low degrees of integrity. This is because they are imitated by the people who are below him. By being the role model, he acts as the person to whom the subordinates will look up to. It is a fact proven that whatever he possesses is what he will pass on. One cannot preach water and drink wine.

Question three

`So as to sustain a competitive advantage in the Westwards, there are several factors that they need to put into consideration as stated by the general manager.

The first force is the power of the suppliers. The existence of powerful suppliers results to the creation of more and more value to the customers. This is because they can create value to themselves by adding premium rates to their advantage (Luck and Lancaster, 2003).

The second force that exists is the barriers to the entry into the market. This is further increased by the strength of the competitors that exist in the market that the business seeks to embark on. This is however eliminated by the creation and the accurate selection of the customers to the products of the company.

The third force that exists is the purchasing power of the people in the market. By the commodity prices being higher than the average buying power of the people in the market, then they cannot succeed in the market. The products should hence be in line with the buying powers of the people in the market so that they can afford them.

The fourth force that exists is the existence of substitute commodities to those that are offered by the company (Johns, 2007). This can be to the detriment of the company is they are present. This is because if the company charges high prices for the commodities, the customers will transfer their attention to the substitutes. The opposite applies.

The final force that is eminent is the existence of strong rivalries among the competitors. Competition results to the decrease in the prices that are charged for commodities goods and services that are offered (Chen etal. 2014). Once the competition is unfair, the weak parties are kicked out of the market by the neck breaking levels of competition.

Question four

Ramifications of choosing to sell the hotel are many to the company. The first is that they would have reduced the trend of losses that the company was making. This would also limit the company to growth that occurred further due to the failure to sell it abruptly in the beginning. The lack of commitment from the staff that was witnessed at early stages would also have been eliminated (Jahan, 2015). This would have been an undertaking that would have brought to an end all the previous bad results that were made by the hotel. To the employees, this was a chance to empower themselves again by the failure to sell the hotel. The hiller group would on its part benefit by attaining good returns from the operations.

Question five

The essence of undertaking of business is the creation of value for either a new operation or the renovation of an existing one to create value for the investors and the stakeholders involved (Jared, 1989). The strategy that is being adopted by the Hiller group is a compatible one. This is because they are able to develop an undertaking at an even lesser cost as compared to the opening up of a new one. This is economical for them. This also gives room for the testing for the effectiveness of new strategies that they think that will be effective and profitable for the business.

Question six

No. I would not sell the hotel at the moment. This is because it is a positive aspect going into the future and it has the ability of turning business dreams into realities. Based on the predictions that are also placed and the plans going into the year 2016, there is a steady and a constant source of income for the business (GU etal. 2012). This would be to the gratitude of the stakeholders in the company. As such, it is in line with their aspirations and they are hence not in any rush or haste to liquidate it. There is also an anticipated increase in the demand for luxury hotels in the area. This is hence a fruit ripening for the hotel industry and which will bring more good results for their future.
