Critical Analysis: iTechnology Framework

Introduction

Digital technologies involve the use of digital resources to effectively analyze, find, create, use information and communicate in a digital context. Digital technologies are also referred to as iTechnology, and it has a wide range of applications. The iTechnology framework tools are increasingly being used in education for learning. Digital learning technology has improved the learning process and it has also transformed the education sector (Rosell-Aguilar, 2013). Aspect such as distance learning is increasingly becoming common. The paper discusses the iTechnology framework and concepts.

Discussion

Open source

Open source is a development model that promotes the universal access via a free license to a product. It plays an essential role in promoting communication and interaction among communities or a group of people. The source code for the open source is usually available to the general public for modification and use. The open source enables the community to share challenges and information. This has found a wide range of application in education. The concept is also applied during the process of teaching students. When giving instructions to the students, the open source is usually used as a shared web space (Bocker, et al, 2011). The students can interact with the instructors and lecturers through the use of open web. An open source course commonly used by students is the Java Education & Development initiative. It has led to the creation of wikiversity which enables the students to interact with each other and share knowledge.

Moodle is a digital learning platform that is aimed at providing the administrators, educators and learners with a single robust, secure and integrated system. It enables the creation of a personalized environment for learning. The users are only required to download the software onto their web servers. Moodle provides a learning environment to millions of learners worldwide. Currently it has about 79 million users with a high number being learners (Rice, 2011). Moodle operates by providing a centric tools and collaborative learning environment that promotes learning and teaching. It is easy to use as it is equipped with drag and drop features. Moodle is also provided as an open source making it easy for anyone to use it. It has flexible tools that support the blended learning as well as online courses making it convenient for the learners. Moodle can be accessed in different languages making it convenient for a diverse group of people. It also supports other external collaborative tools which include wikis, forums, blogs and chat (Rice, 2011). It is backed by strong community and extensive resources. It is convenient as it can be accessed from anywhere and has security and privacy controls.

iTunes U is part of the iTunes feature that is used for storing the free lecture materials, audiobooks and other educational materials. It can be accessed through the use of iphone, ipod, Mac or PC. It has thousands of educational audio and video files from top universities, public media organizations and museums from around the world. iTunes U is an important and effective method for distributing the digital lectures (Rosell-Aguilar, 2013). The contents, in most cases, are commonly accessed via the Apple iTunes store. The users are required to download the latest version of the iTune from the iTune website. The software is free and hence making it convenient among most of the learners. A wide range of information that is suitable for the students can be found when using the iTunes U. The students can greatly benefit from its use as it allows for educational information to be easily obtained. This digital tool is useful to the students and it promotes learning.

Online exam

The online exam is a fun and informal way of learning. Online exam builder software is usually used for developing the questions. The students can access exams online as part of the learning process. The experience and academic level of the student is important in determining the online exams that they are likely to undertake. It is more of an interactive session as opposed to the difficult exams questions which may discourage the learners. The online exams test the knowledge of the learners and it also enables them to discover new ideas (Ardid, et al, 2015). The knowledge and skills of the learners can be improved through the use of the online exams. An online exam provides the students to test their knowledge and skills on their own. It is important to the students as it prepares them for the real examination. The online examination is thus an important digital tool for the learners.

Online surveys

The online surveys involve the administration of survey questions and questionnaires. The questions and questionnaires are directed to the respondents to obtain specific information. The emails as well as the websites can be used when dealing with the online survey. The students can use online surveys for collecting information from respondents who are located in different parts of the world. Online surveys are useful to the students during the process of carrying out research (Kinash, et al, 2013). It makes it easy for the students to obtain the data that they would otherwise have been forced to travel to the field to meet the respondents. Online surveys can enable the students to collect data within a short period of time. One or two weeks are enough for the student to collect adequate data. The levels of accuracy are also high when using the online survey which is also cheap and affordable to the students.

Interactive books

iBook is a special Apple-Only-touch version of the epub standards. It is mainly created through the use of iBook author application. An iBook can only be read through the use of the iBook application on an iPad or Mac running with Operating System 10.9 (David & Thomas, 2015). The users can also incorporate a large variety of interactive features using widgets. This is commonly used by the students for the purposes of sharing information. An eBook is book that has been published in a digital form. It mainly consists of images and texts which are readable on computer and other electronic devices. The eBooks may or may not have equivalent printed versions. The availability of eBooks and ibooks plays an essential role in enabling the learners to easily access the learning materials through the use of devices such as smartphones and the laptops. It has reduced the need of students physically visiting libraries or bookshops to purchase the books.

An app is a computer program that is designed to run mobile devices which includes tablet computers and smartphones. Most apps are usually pre-installed and the users can easily uninstall it. The apps are used for carrying out different activities. Some of the apps are specifically designed to support educational activities and are commonly used by students. Some of the apps are used by international students for translating information from one language to the other (David & Thomas, 2015). Other apps are used for translating the scientific issues and concepts. Some are used for knowledge transfer and sharing of information among the learners. The apps are important for the students as it simplifies their work. The lecturers and the students can interact through the use of the apps. The quality of learning is enhanced through the use of different apps and hence its relevance in the education sector.

Conclusion

In conclusion, it is evident that the digital technology has pros and cons in the learning environment. The digital technology tools mainly promote interaction and knowledge sharing among the learners. Access to information has been simplified through the use of digital technologies which benefits the student and the lecturers. It is also evident that the students can access education from any part of the world through the use of the digital technologies. It is evident that the physical contact between the lecturers and the students is reduced through itechnology concepts. This may impact negatively on the students and the learning process. It may also be difficult for the lecturers to monitor the student which increases the chances of academic dishonesty.
