Assessment 1: Reflective discussion & analysis Essay Example
I start this article by critically reflecting on the manner in which my attitude towards environmental sustainability has changed. Before beginning my discussion further I would like to relate my understanding of the concept of environmental sustainability. According to me environmental sustainability is create people’s awareness, competence, attitudes and values so that understanding of the environment can be created. This requires taking steps which will help to reduce the amount of environmental harm and will help to develop an equitable and sustainable future which will aim towards protecting the environment.
I agree to the fact that environmental sustainability helps people to reflect and use the different form of technology which will enable to develop a sustainable advantage. This thereby brings forward a new form of cross cultural movements which starts with modernity and develops tension between the changes and developments which has impacted the world environment bodies (Dryzek, 1997). This was caused primarily due to development of power and labour, privatization, deregulation of environment and labour and other similar policies which have created a negative impact on the world economies (Smith, 1996).
Despite the different steps and policies developed by world bodies the impact has been largely limited as people on a personal level haven’t understood the manner in which environmental hazards are impacting their daily lives (Macnaghten & Urry, 1998). This has been matched by the fact that continuous desire to hoard profits and multiply capital at any cost has resulted in the environmental degradation and social exclusion. This has been entirely due to the fact that the attitude of the people towards the environment is negative which has thereby reflected the manner in which the overall growth and impact of the world economies have been impacted (Huckle & Sterling, 1996).
The most important factor according to me which will help to raise concerns towards environmental sustainability is by bringing the required change in the attitude of the person. This has been highlighted in a study as human are rational agents who aim at developing long term relationship which are based on a set of values and beliefs which have been inculcated through education (Goldblatt, 1996). This will act as a parameter for bringing the required change through which the environment concerns will be reduced.
The foster thinking and concern towards the environment has further shaped my attitude towards environment as my concerns towards the environment has magnified. This has been possible due to the different learning and educational program which has highlighted the manner in which I look to bring a change in my steps towards the environment (Harvey, 1996). Personally, I was not looking at taking steps and had little concern for the environment but my concern and attitude towards the environment has changed. This has resulted in ensuring that I take steps on a personal level through which I will be able to take save the environment. I look towards saving the environment by ensuring that the carbons released by me are controlled so that it will have a positive impact and help to control the environment to the maximum possible extent.
I would further look towards arguing that a link is established between ecological and economic sustainability where economic sustainability looks to govern ecological balance and thereby concentrates on growth instead of durability. This has thereby impacted the ecological balance and has impacted the overall structure through which environmental concerns are being looked at (Gadotti, 1996). The challenge here for sustainability is to develop a culture which will aim towards long term sustainability and develop an environment through which the concerns for the environment is created.
This has resulted in the creation of weak sustainability where the corporate and the state sector haven’t been able to bring the required transformation through which environmental sustainability can be developed. This will require that steps are taken to be able to develop the structure through which help to find out the manner in which environment will be taken care off (Dryzek, 1997). The different government bodies from all around the globe have expressed their concerns and have framed rules and regulations which are aimed at carbon reduction. Still, little has been gained through it as it becomes important that individuals at their personal level aim at taking steps which ensures reduction in carbon emission and developing a sustainable advantage for the environment (Korten, 1996).
My attitude towards environment sustainability has been changed and developed due to the educational program and continuous endeavor of my professors. The curriculum has been developed in such a manner that it concentrates on the different cognitive and multiple learning style theories which has brought about the required changes and have changed my attitude towards environment (Doherty & Geus, 1996). The understanding of the subject and the manner in which environment has a deep impact on the future outcomes and growth has been highlighted. This has helped to understand the different directions and areas which I need to change to show my concerns towards the environment.
Based on the different feedback and learning based on the Environment as an Integrating Context (EIC) Model, I have realized the manner in which environmental changes have impacted human lives (Cornforth, 1987). This has forced me to undergo the required changes and develop a process where through my daily routine I look at reducing the harm which is done on the environment by taking steps which ensures reduction of carbons.
The overall impact has been thereby very strong as it has helped to understand the different dimensions and allowed to make the required changes through which a model has been developed to prevent the environment. The pedagogy and the different learning’s have brought about the required changes in my attitude towards the environment. This has raised the required concerns and has ensured that the steps taken by me look at protecting the environment and developing an atmosphere which ensures long term sustainability for the environment.
