Training refers to the acquisition of skills. The main goals of training are enhancement of quality, and to boost productivity. This is where graduates feel that training done on communication issues help them in meeting their job demands (Fitzgerald, 2013, p. 2). When one gains new skills, quality and productivity is usually enhanced. There are various methods used in training. They include coaching, exposure, apprenticeship and studies. When one undergoes training they benefit by gaining experience, new knowledge and abilities. Scope of training enhances awareness and looks at all the areas of training which include management, job productivity and performance. Training also involves training needs which refer to the practice of spotting gaps in the training of employees and correlated needs of training. There is also on job training and off-job training. Off-job training is where trainees are trained outside their working premises. On the other hand, on-job training is done while at the working stations (NCVER, 2013, online).

Education is termed as the duration one has taken while in school. This is the American definition of education. In the United Kingdom, education refers to the qualification that someone has meaningfully gained. Education relates to economic and social factors. Education at large concerns human beings and their welfare. Education and the environment are related since education generally relates to what surrounds us (Julie, 2004, p. 1). Education is also seen as an investment and activity in the society. These two are some of the biggest benefits accrued to education. The main activity when it comes to education is learning. This is because; information is usually passed on to those who are undergoing education. The participants in Education are learners, society and those teaching.

Skills refer to one’s response to training. It also refers to one’s abilities at work. When one undergoes training, they acquire skills. Skills are thus the end results of any training session and cater for the needs of an employer, organization and the society at large (Fitzgerald, 2013, p. 1). Skills can also be acquired at one’s place of work. This is where one gains expertise on a certain area at work. Expertise in a profession is as a result of skills gained. At work, the acquisition of skills is a result of efforts by the employer and employee. This means that, the employer and the employee are the main participants in this case. Learners and people who pass down the skills are also participants. Response is the main activity. This is because; skills are gained as a result of one’s response to an experience. For instance, employees in Germany are being exposed to training on a new energy that is renewable that will help minimize the cost of fuel in organizations (Lovins, 2013, p1, 2). New discoveries call for training of employees in order to help them in meeting their job demands in the new environment

Workplace learning refers to the acquirement of new skills at one’s place of work through effective participation. The usage of skills is normally improved by the management in a workplace through training, commitment, motivation of the workers and consultation (Bullock, 2012, p. 8). It also refers to the acquisition of expertise in one’s working place. Workplace learning generally meets economic needs and the needs of industries. When one gets employed, they get exposed to a number or numerous challenges, opportunities and emerging issues. One gets to participate effectively, and through that one gets to learn and acquire new skills and some expertise. The main participants are employees and the main activity is learning.

Workforce development refers to growth incurred in a workforce. This may refer to new skills and knowledge that have been gained as a result of workforce learning. It caters for emerging issues and areas in which change is needed. It also creates a positive impact by enhancing productivity (Future Focus, 2013, p. 11). The main participants are employees, employer and shareholders within the task force. The main activity here is growth and development gained.
